History of Topps Traded/Topps Updates & Highlights

Does anyone here have a good knowledge of the history of the Topps Traded sets? I've been going through my collection over the holidays. I have many of the small traded sets that came out in the cardboard boxes in the late 80s. I know at some point recently (2004 or 2005?) Topps began issuing the U&H set.

What was the first year the traded series started? Was it issued continuously thru the late 90s when Topps sets seemed to be pared back in size? What was the official year it transitioned to U&H?

To add to my comment, pre 1994 traded set rookies are considered XRC's, in 1994 the sets were more widely distributed and they started receiving the true RC notation...
