Advice on how to negotiate a best offer.

I just had a bunch of listings end the past two days. I am getting the normal "Will you accept this?" emails. I respond to each email depending on the quality of the offer. If it is a lowball, I usually just send a thank you and decline. If it is within 30% of what I would sell the card for, I negotiate with a counter. If it is within 10%, I accept it.

However I will ignore emails that start out trashing the card and then asking for my best price. Basically the ones that go - "I know the card sells for $XX, but your isn't worth that much. You will never sell it at the price you want. What is your lowest price?"

I got this for a well-centered PSA 9 mid-1960's superstar regular issue card.

I know life is a negotiation (I do it for a living) and everyone wants to pay the lowest price, but this is still a hobby and you should try to keep the enjoyment in it.

When someone starts with the "your card sucks" routine or attempts to use some form of verbal abuse as a negotiation tactic, I ignore them. I prefer to keep my gray hairs to a minimum.

I was actually offering the advice. It does surprise me how often this tactic is used as an opening strategy. I know there isn't a long term business relationship on ebay, but then again most of us are collectors first and not hobby business people, if I was I would never have gotten into this money trap hobby! I guess the card show dealer is still alive.
