Maybe I'm paranoid...

But this card didn't look good to me. I picked this up to get signed as the one I have is pretty off center. I didn't look into it too much before I bought it as it only cost $5. I'm by no means an expert in picking out a frosted holder, but there is some frost on the right side of the holder and in the bottom right corner. I also noticed that the card is much lighter than my card that I already had. Anyway opinions are welcomed. Maybe I'm just imagining things...

Look at the holder from the side. Does the frost go all the way through the thickness of the holder? If not, then the halves probably haven't been separated.

the holder is fine... a lot of holders have a tiny bit of frost like that..
  • Thanks guys, I didn't think someone would really do this...I think I'm just hyper sensitive to the 84 football because I got this Elway a few months back which came back questionable auth.

    I disagree . . .

Unless the scan of the card in the plastic tomb is fuzzy, the lettering and logo, black lines etc., look like they are made of print dots, rather than solid type or lines. That = counterfeit.

    What he said.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I agree with Bob, the whole card looks blurry and the colors are all lighter. Not good signs.

Anyone know of this card being counterfeited in the past?

Sometimes the back is easier to tell, do you have back scans too?

It's a $6 card, think it might cost more than that to make a counterfeit one.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

  • excellent $5 replacement for your OC one.
  • Since we're on the subject of paranoia, what do you guys think of this Sandberg rookie? The card looks to be a 9 to my novice eyes. It has about 56/44 centering on the front and maybe a print dot or two on the back. Otherwise it might be a 10. Still, the holder looks pretty bad.

Here's a card that I scanned for reference using the same settings on the same scanner. This one I know is good, since I bought it from someone here.

  • The Dickerson and Sandberg look fine. It's not hard to ding the edges on a slab, and lots of them have a light frosting to start with.

The flip looks blurry too on the Dickerson. It looks like a bad scan rather than a counterfeit.

I could be mistaken but looks like the PSA Dickerson had some light exposure.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

Guys, sometimes cards were produced and the color was not the greatest.

This appears to be one of those times.

    Good for you.
