OT: Help with eBay sale (electronics)

Hi, sorry for the off topic thread, but I don't know what to do in this situation and hope some members may lend their opinions/assistance.
I sold a laptop on eBay on 12/10/2010 for $299 and just received a message from the buyer that one of the speakers does not work and they are asking if I am open to a partial refund.
The laptop was bought brand new and used only twice for less than six hours total, and the speakers were working just fine before it was shipped.
I didn't want to sell it (really like it) and would prefer to just have them return it.
BUT
I've heard of buyers on eBay getting computers and switching parts. This buyer looks like they sell a lot of electronics and may have performed a switcharoo of some kind.
AND
who is to say they will even return it or return it packaged well.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I'd just offer him $40, wait for his counter of $75, reply with an offer of $60, pay him $60, and be done with it.
Then again, I've received a laptop that had only one speaker working. It's probably more common than you think, and if you only used the one in question for a few hours, you may not have noticed that one speaker was out unless you were listening to loud music or watching a movie. Was it a Dell laptop?
<< <i>If your buyer is acting in bad faith and is also aware that he can file a SNAD dispute and has a 99.9% chance of winning it, sorry to say, he has you by the balls, and you're screwed.

Thanks,
It is a Samsung NC20.
The speakers were working -- guess I should be happy that they're not going for the 100% item not as described claim.
I think I'm going to sift through their feedback and contact a few members who may have sold them laptops/computers and see if they had any problems.
The laptop was $640 and still had all of the plastic on the screen and top (I don't take these off my electronics) -- no telling what it will look like coming back as I may just ask them to send it back if they want anything over 10% of the $299 sale price.
Try to issue the SMALLEST possible partial refund.
NEVER sell a computer on EBAY, unless you do a local
pickup for CASH.
If you let the "buyer" return the item, you prolly won't
like what he sends back.
