I know that you hate it, but may I please get the SMR for a card?

I have been diligently working upon the 1941 Play Ball set and am now down to seven needed cards. My wonderful mother allowed me to choose what I wanted for Christmas, so I got the pee wee Reese rookie out of this set. it just got me one step closer to completion. I honestly do not know how I am going to be able to afford the Ted Williams or the Joe DiMaggio cards.

The reason I am writing this is because I found a very beautiful card that I need for this set. The price seems to be fair, but I am just curious if I might be hanging myself out to dry if I were to obtain it. I have a very limited time to decide if I should get it or not. It is a 1941 Play Ball #18 Hank Greenberg in PSA 6 condition.

Hopefully one of you fine gentlemen can help me with this.

Merry Christmas! Did any of you get any good cards?

tl;dr I am debating on buying a card for the set that I am working on, but I would like to know the SMR value of a 1941 Play Ball #18 Hank Greenberg.

VCP average for Greenberg PSA 6 is $238.63
    last 5 sales are $275 (bin, best offer) 211. 211. 174. 256.
    SMR is $295.

once again, SMR is way off and you'd be overpaying.

  • Thanks so much for the honest & somewhat depressing answer. I think I'll pass... this man is blowing it up big time. He initially wanted $425, but "financial troubles" are FORCING him to slash his already "low" prices to even less than it is worth. It is a very beautiful card and would love to have it, but I'm not thaaat picky with the grades. I'm gonna have to shop around a bit more. Your help is more than appreciated. Merry Christmas!

    Good luck with your set.

I don't subscribe to VCP anymore but if I remember correctly, some of the more recent mid-grade Greenbergs have not been centered well (could be why some have sold rather cheap lately).

Someone with access may be able to check me on this.

the one for $275 had pretty good centering- not dead on, but certainly pretty strong. The previous ones (the 2 $211's and the previous one) were pretty OC.
