Who cares if he prices cards above prior sales. If he has a card you want, he is pricing it where he thinks it should sell for.
You can either take it or leave it. If there are plenty available his will most likely not sell but if there are not and you want the card bad enough you at some point will pay his price.

Hey! Don't forget, because HE owns them, they are worth a premium!
Hey - more power to him! When the person charges $10 a gallon for gas, I will just drive elsewhere, and laugh at the people who pull into the station to buy gas anyway!
geez, even an innocent accomplishment blends into a bashing.
regardless of what the OP paid for his card, i'm fairly certain his intention was met, he seems VERY excited about it, and the balance achieved probably exists in the likelihood that many of the cards he acquired for his set were bought at far below premium prices from folks who were simply trying to help or during a period when the market was offering better opportunities.
Levi is not the only guy who thrives on the needs of collectors, set builders, gift buyers or whatever and it's still anyones choice to buy from him or not.
the greater purpose of price differentiation allows to make educated decisions about what is the correct amount to pay and what is not....how bad do you want it? how about now?
if everyone priced their stuff exactly the same, then how easy might it be to make an educated decision if you're in business and actually trying to make a profit?
I have no problem paying a premium for the last card I needed for the set. I've shown a LOT of patience building this set for almost 6 years. As I got closer to the finish line, I needed some premium gas, there weren't many gas stations around and I got anxious to finish the race!
I've been asking specifically for this card on the BST and VST boards for a while seeing if I could scare a copy up that was relatively well-centered, something this card does not normally have going for it.
Cheers to Levi for having what I needed at the time I most needed it and for what I was willing to pay.
I don't know why people complain about 707 who cares? If his prices are that high, then that should help you improve the odds of selling your cards.
I looked at 707's completed sales and he has sold thousands of dollars worth of cards in just the past 2 weeks and probably at a good profit margin. Why would he want to change the way he does business?

Collecting a set turns into a full blown passion. The last thing I would be concerned about is paying more then others think you should have.
Creating an excellent set is what your mission was and unless you plan on selling it next month the price is irelavent.
I just paid $100 for an SD Jones card in PSA 9 mint. The card sells raw for less then $5. Who cares as there is only one currently and if you want to build your set you shell out the bucks it takes.
I would imagine there are plenty of cards in your set where you are in the money on that card so if business is the only thing in mind it many times averages out in the end in your favor anyway.
Everyone is complaining about the brutal card market on here, be glad there are sellers left that can hold out for higher prices and be even more glad there are set collectors left who want merchandise and will pay for it.

CONGRATS on finishing your set. What a GREAT accomplishment. When you figure out how much that set probably cost you to complete, what the hell is the difference if you spent a few dollars more on the last card you needed for your set? You can spend $5.00 for a 6 pack and bring it home to drink or $5.00 for ONE in the local bar. Why would you go to the bar? Because it's worth it TO YOU!
STAY HEALTHY!

I could never understand why people complain about 707 and their prices and sales. They should be praising their practice. If 707 is selling cards for a lot more then vcp average wouldn't his sales drive up prices. Thus everyone's cards are going up in value. I wonder why people wouldn't want their cards to increase in value.
Me thinks if bobby's gas light was on and the 707 gas station was the only station around he rather run out of gas and walk vs filling up.

YES - one of the posters on this thread often complains about 'giving his cards away on eBay'. many, many times he's made these comments. then 707 makes a buck and he's not happy. it's HIS stuff and he can price it for what he wants to. don't like it? then don't buy it. again IF VCP captured all the buy it now listings then VCP average would be much higher than it shows on any card. Levi's not a rich man for being stupid. I don't believe any one on ebay has a gun to their head forcing them to hit the buy it now on Levi's listings
707 Sportscards does a lot of good for the sports card hobby.
1) It helps sustain strong market prices. What do you think would happen to the real value of your cards if everyone sold low rather than high?
2) If you're trying to sell a card, compare it to 707's higher-priced "like" card, and it makes your asking price look that much more affordable.
3) 707 can justify asking for a price premium based on their long track record. A buyer does not know what they're getting with a basement seller that has an eBay feedback score of 150. Consequently, they pay a correspondingly lower price based on that uncertainty, and a higher price based on 707's hobby longevity.
It's hard to imagine people criticizing a person like 707 when they're running a sustainable, profitable business model with something as cool and fun as sports cards. Does one know how hard that is to do in the year 2010? This is admirable and a credit to the hobby.
I imagine that many criticizing 707 simply for asking more for many of their cards correlate with those people whom are not very successful in business.

Which set are you close to finishing? It'd be a long shot, but I enjoy filling in sets, so it's worth a try!
If I start another Topps set, it may be a '64 or '65. I have complete raw '62, '63 and '68 sets, so it'd be fun to see some cards I never acquired as a kid and complete that run of sets. I think my raw '64 set is about 90% complete, the '65 and '66 sets 50% and the '67 at 25% or so. Must've gotten distracted by girls or something in those years... >>
Like Jeff who chimed in earlier on this thread, I'm building a 56 set (20 to go). I've got a couple of other registry sets in the early stages, but my main focus is on completing the 56 set.
