Cameron Kiefer, Ambassador of Numismatics

RYKRYK Posts: 35,799 ✭✭✭✭✭
Cameron had many wonderful qualities that endeared him to us. While he was a skilled and accomplished numismatist at a very young age, he was also honest, good-natured, outgoing, and decent. Based on scant posts from later years, and subsequent information that has come to light, he may have been lacking some of the necessities to being a successful coin dealer, including the business instincts and acumen, organization, and, perhaps and most importantly, working capital. It is painfully clear to me that coin dealering is not for everyone, and there are few opportunities for financial success and glamour in coins outside of this.

Someone with Cameron's positive qualities should have a place in the numismatic world, and, though posthumous, I think he is best remembered as the Ambassador of Numismatics, reflecting the bright light and goodwill he brought to the coin community.

Well said, and I think especially an inspiration to his peers.
I manage money. I earn money. I save money .
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.

I am very sad to read about Cam.
I met him years ago,and always played guess the grade with him at shows.
I had a recent problem with him,and all he had to do was tell me the truth, and I would have understood, and tried to help.
I now wish that I had tried to find out what was really happening.
He will be missed, and he was good for the coin world.

I will try and find the guest book, and sign..

    RIP Cam.

Well phrased RYK. I will always remember the good things about this man that I never was fortunate enough to meet. We are all bound together by an appreciation. It happens to be an appreciation of coins. But in all of us, I think the sense of 'appreciation' is the core . . .and I appeciate what CK did during his time here.

I always respected his knowledge, especially given his age, and I agree with your sentiment. A very nice gesture, and heartfelt. Thank you.

Well said, RYK. Were you a rabbi in your previous life?
  • I talked with him at a show once he seemed like a real nice guy.
  • Great guy and great thread even though I can understand some that lost money due to dealing with Cameron not feeling the same. I am pretty sure even the mob here would have turn up their IOU's to save Cameron's life had anyone known just what condition he was in at the end. image

He helped a lot of folks over the years. It was fun watching the young man grow up. I was always shocked at how much he knew at such a young age. I'll miss him.

I liked Cameron and would have supported him fully had I any inkling of what was occuring in his life.

    I shall miss him.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

There is a nice remembrance written about Cameron in Coin World in the January 17, 2011 (page 20).

Thank you, Coin World, and those who contributed.
