Paypal Question

Have a "Marco Martinez" with an email based in France placed several orders, somehow added a quantity of 2 to a single coin on my website today. I do not accept paypal or credit card orders from overseas. I went to the paypal interface to refund the money and there was no provision for doing so. But paypal did have a "hold" on the funds. I sent "Marco" an email stating that I do not accept credit card or paypal orders from overseas and he's responded by placing yet another order.

We concluded we should do nothing. Just leave it and let paypal sort it out.

What say y'all ?

Thank you in advance and Happy Holidays

I think the hold is preventing your refund.

  • you're going to have to call up paypal and have them remove the hold so you can refund the buyer.

You can set your PayPal preferences to block payments from buyers with non USA based accounts.

That's a good solution. I didn't know we could do that. Thank you all. I sent this nitwit an email after the first order to which he ordered the one coin and must have clicked 2 for quantity ( lol ) to charge that much. They offer that when makinig such an individual purchase? If anyone gets an order from such a person in "Paris", head

They say the hold is set till the 30th. Personally I don't care if they hold this order for 10 years. Long as it doesn't co-mingle with my funds or with my life, everything is just fine. He'll just have to wait till either a) there's a quick refund, or b) paypal cancels the sale as I requested.

Now to figure out how to block incoming international payments..........

  • I thought international bidders were automatically blocked if you set your sales regions to whatever country.I know when i cruise Ebay UK or Australia etc i can't bid , tells me i can't unless i PM the seller and get ok'ed to bid.

I don't allow paypal or credit cards for probably 99% of the business we generate. I started allowing some orders that way on smaller stuff like this and was kind of playing it by ear to see if it would consume much time then weight the benefits if any. For the most part it's been fine, with few "issues" and hasn't consumed much time so the option can stick around until it proves otherwise. This may add up to a dozen or less problem orders over the years. But it's a first, to receive an order from overseas, with added quantities of a coin that's not available like that in quantities, told no, then places yet another order for the same item, only singularly on the second go-round.

I need to figure out how to do what you and Russ said. I just didn't know image

  • It's in the first page when you set up a listing , towards the lower section it talks about which method of shipping and which countries. You can opt for USA only or worldwide or custom edit countries you will or will not ship to.Its a drop down menu box.

I stopped selling to several countries on the basis theres no method of confirming delivery other than registered mail and the buyers balk at the shipping cost.Anytime i did send overseas without registered mail those items went "missing" and we went down the old refund route.

Received this morning from paypal. Of course I never shipped this thief anything but I find it more than just interesting paypal's responses to these ( 2 of them same day ):

    Hello Tom Pilitowski,

    A payment has been reversed

We've concluded our investigation into the transaction detailed below.

Because we determined that you did not meet the eligibility requirements
for the PayPal Seller Protection Policy, you are being charged for this
reversed transaction. We've returned the funds to the PayPal account
holder, and your account will be debited for the amount of this transaction.

    -----------------------------------
    Helping ensure safe transactions
    -----------------------------------

Most of the payments you receive will be from, honest buyers. PayPal wants
to help ensure that your transactions are as safe as possible.

You can often reduce your risk by paying close attention to payment details
    and unusual requests.

    * Watch for address inconsistencies:
It's fairly common for a buyer's shipping address to be different from the
billing address. In some cases, though, it could indicate fraud. For
instance, a high-priced item that has a billing address in one country and
a shipping address in another may be suspicious.

    * Beware of unusual requests that could indicate suspicious activity, such
    as:
    - Buyers who want rush shipment at any cost
    - Buyers who send partial payments from different PayPal accounts
    - Do not make payment in full

Go to the PayPal Security Center for more information.
