1954 Topps and Bowman

Hey guys, I am a coin guy but someone asked me to determine the value of some cards. The list of cards is as follows:

1954 Topps Jackie Robinson
1954 Topps Ted Williams
1954 Topps Yogi Berra
1954 Topps Phil Rizzuto
1954 Topps Whitey Ford
1954 Topps Billy Martin
1954 Topps Hoyt Wilhelm
1954 Topps Monte Irvin
1954 Topps Harvey Kuenn
1954 Topps Bill Skowron
1954 Topps Junior Gilliam
several others from the series

1954 Bowman Yogi Berra
1954 Bowman Billy Martin
1954 Bowman Bob Lemon
1954 Bowman Hoyt Wilhem
1954 Bowman Don Larsen
1954 Bowman Richie Ashburn
several others from the series

Cards are in pretty good condition. Thank you for any light you can shed on the subject.

"pretty good" is very subjective, and as in coins a slight difference in grade can mean an exponential jump in value. To give a fair assessment you'd probably need to post a few indicative scans.

  • You've got a nice group of cards, condition being equal the 54T Williams will be worth the most. But as Griffins has already stated, the condition is the KEY factor in determining worth. If you're able to post scans that would help immensely .

Coming from the coin side and knowing a little about the card biz, let's just say they are 5's and 6's and potentially a 7 or two. Really, any help is greatly appreciated. I am just looking for some (gu)es(s)timates. Are these cards worth grading and what are the best avenues for selling? I am familiar with "the pit" and eBay. I know the BST board is popular but I don't know if that suits in this case. Any thoughts?

    Thank you in advance.
  • In general if they are 5,6,7's. Yes many are worth grading.

    Is The Pit still around?
Those cards come up fairly often, you should be able to see realized prices on ebay closed auctions.
Your best bet would be to pay for a day pass to vintagecardprices.com
It will show you virtually every public sale of each card in every possible grade over the last 4 years.
    I think it's about $4 for 24 hours, about $12-15 for a month.
