Is this Morgan dollar worth submitting?

crazyhounddogcrazyhounddog Posts: 14,234 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm not to good at grading these Morgan dollars, so what do you think, should I submit this coin, or just sell it raw? Thanks for any help....Joe

I have an 81S with almost that exact same tone and I think it's gorgeous. But, yours seems to have some rub in the hair? Does it? I'd have to say no as well. image

You'd need at least a 65 grade to make an 1881-S worth submitting and even then it's a wash. I would not submit it. Looks 64 to me.

There could be some rub in there somewhere, like I said, I'm not very good at grading these Morgans...?????

I don't think it's worth the money to submit unless it's an MS65 as previously mentioned. This coin looks like a Min 63 Max 64 coin.

I think any coin you like is worth submitting, regardless of what it's worth or what anyone says.
    When in doubt, don't.

Why pay more to grade and slab the coin than the coin is worth?

I don't know the grade, so I don't know it's worth. I collect Buffalo Nickel's and kinda know my way around these Morgans, but there are people on this board, like you, who do know much more than I as to it's grade and it's worth. Thanks again for the help, it is appreciated....Joe

No. Ultra common date that is probably just a nice AU58.

Looks MS63 to 64 to me. It's a personal decision as far as submitting.

I think its a pretty Morgan, but like most have said unless it grades 65($125 coin) you will lose money by submitting it.Keep it raw or sell as is.

A very nice album slot-filler. I'd keep it raw.

The coin is beautiful. I love AU58 grades. I'm not in the market to buy a Morgan just now, but if I were, I'd buy that coin.

I just wanted to thank you for sharing the photo. That's the way a Morgan should look. I agree with the post above that this coin would look spectacular in a 7070.

    Merry Christmas.

I dont think it would grade any higher than a 63.
Small gash under the eye will hold it back also.
