I decided to sell a bunch of Canadian nickels on eBay for fun. These are the 99.9% nickel ones. In order to sell, I figured I'd have to offer at the "cheapest" price or thereabouts - $14.99 per pound. Offered free shipping for 10 pounds (the best deal for the customer). My cost for the 10 pounds was roughly $100, a couple years ago.
This is how it shakes out, selling 10 "pounds" for $149.90 total:
eBayPosting fee: $0.40
Final value fee: $17.99
Paypal fee: $4.65
Postage cost: $7.30
Total fees: $30.34 (wow!)
Net to me: $119.56. Melt value of the nickel: $111.57 (courtesy Coinflation.com)
So in summary, I came out ahead (never mind the labor involved). But eBay sure does take a nice chunk of the action!
