Another ebay story...

I tried selling a 1/4 ounce gold philharmonic last week on ebay. Nothing special. I realized shortly after that the buy it now price was probably too high, but I didn't need to move it right away. Just wanted some extra cash for future student loan payments. So it was kind of a red flag when this guy buys it within 24 hrs of posting. He only has 1 feedback post to his name. He pays via paypal and immediately sends me an email giving me a Japanese shipping address. My ebay settings prevented any non US/CAN bidders, and I explicitly said that in the item description. He used an Arizona address to get around that.

This quite frankly pissed me off, and was enough to end the sale right there. But then he asks me to lie on the customs sheet if I sent it. Nope. Not doing. This transaction is over.

I email this, and while I'm doing so, I get an email from another ebayer saying not to sell to this guy; he's probably a scammer.

Anyways, I refund the money with paypal, and yesterday he confirms to end the sale. But he leaves positive feedback on my wall, saying honest seller, fast shipping. Hmm. But he asks me to leave positive feedback on his wall.

From this, I can deduce that he probably is a scammer. He's trying to build a feedback rating to appear to be trustworthy. So, I'm not leaving a damn bit of feedback for him.

But I have positive feedback on my wall, linking me to selling and shipping this cancelled item.....which never happened! Any chance this could have negative reprocussions? For example, when I relist this item, folks will see me selling the same item in my feedback, making people think I'm a scammer!

Jeez. Anyways, this was a bit of a rant, nobody lost money or their coins here. Could have been worse. But FYI--watch out for this kind of activitity. Thanks to the other ebayer, if they're a member here for looking out for the common honest person.

How did the second ebayer know who purchased your item? I thought that the buyer ID was now hidden from view. Perhaps I am wrong on this point. Anyway, I think you have nothing to fear regarding this feedback.

One can run an advanced search on a buyer ID and see what they purchased. It's likely the seller did so and saw that the scammer had purchased from the OP.

You can respond to the feedback he left. Just say that it never shipped and
    transaction canceled, buyer in Japan.

That way anyone looking at his feedback left will see your remarks and wonder:
    what the heck?

Not being an expert in ebay, I was not aware of this feature. Will do, thanks.

Not likely a scammer but a huge and growing problem on feepay with foreign buyers registering bogus US addresses to bid. I've had it happen a few times and a very busy feepay seller friend has it happen daily. Even tho he does ship international, many are from countries he restricts. Ginormous waste of time for sellers.
