He had me until I read:

<< <i>If you bid, you agree to leave 5 stars for S&H on the childish rating system! >>

    Not gonna happen.

    Good for you.

I agreed with everything, but the "agree to leave 5 stars" thing was the only bad part.

The part about the shipping and handling things is SPOT ON, DEAD PERFECT, GEM MINT 10 and CENTERED comment for all the whiny Shipping babies we get a thread a week on.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

  • I lol'd but it was kind of painfully true... So I guess I really 707'd.
  • Under most circumstances, I'd also think the "agree to leave 5 stars on shipping" thing was uncalled for, but I've been using ebay for 12 years, and it has changed so much over that time. He's totally right that the star system is a "childish rating system." Sometimes I overcharge for shipping unintentionally by overestimating the weight of an item. I can't pre-pack everything to know its exact weight because I don't know which items will sell, and if I did that, I wouldn't be able to combine shipping. Other times I undercharge for shipping and lose money. The whole thing sucks. If I list an $8 shipping charge, that should be the end of it. The buyer pays $8 and shouldn't have a right or opportunity to complain that my actual cost at the post office was only $5.50.

If you know how to play the game, you can pretty much get back (as a buyer) most of the fees paid by the seller. Between the 2% of the purchase price you get back in ebay bucks plus 40% of the seller fee you can have redirected to you through iGive, you can net more than half of what the seller paid ebay in a FVF. And since listing fees have gone down in recent months, most of ebay's profits come from FVFs.

The guy is correct, but his listing is a TOS violation.

This recent NEG may have sent him over the edge:

over charges for shipping ! the real cost was 64 cents - they charged $3.99 ???

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

What part of the listing is a TOS violation? I don't think "bashing ebay" is explicitly prohibited! LOL
