Shipping from Canada to the US

From board members' experience, how long does it take to receive a package from Canada to the US?
For my scenario, it is from a major Canadian City to a major American City, less than 500 miles apart.
My concern is the seller stating that it could take 2-4 weeks to deliver, and to me that seems somewhat excessive.
Especially since I just received mail from the two countries in Western Europe, and that took less than a week to arrive!

I just don't know if customs would hold up my coin purchase or if the mail from Canada to the US would be slower during this time of year!

Thanks for any input image

it does take a long, long time.

    2 weeks is not unreasonable.

And I'm somewhat surprised about that, but will accept it.
Looks like it will be delivered just after X-Mas!

There's really no way to tell how long a package will take from any country. I've received packages from Europe in as little as 5 days and as long as 5 weeks. I think it depends on the mood of the Customs Agent on any given day. I've noticed that about 10% of my packages are being opened and inspected these past few months. I suspect the seller is just trying to set realistic expectations.

From Toronto to Buffalo can take as long as a month. Mail from Western Europe is usually quicker. I get packages from Great Britain quicker than Florida.

  • I have a friend in BC and it usually takes as much as 10 days to get stuff from them. A tad ridiculous.

  • I've sent a LOT of mail between Canada and the US... been on the receiving and sending end in both countries, a lot.

    In my experience.

Mail from Canada - US can take anywhere from 3 days to 4 weeks.
Mail from US - Canada can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 weeks.

Not sure what makes going from US - Canada quicker, but it almost always is. I'm guessing customs in Canada holds stuff up.

All of the above is based on a somewhat major Canadian city and a somewhat major US city.
  • After years of observing first class mail from Canada to the USA, I think it is as simple as the local post office volumne. When the outgoing bag is full, it goes. I ordered a book by mail from Moncton, New Brunswick and was shocked to have it delivered 3 days after I posted my order. A post card mailed at Fundy Park once took 2 months to arrive.
