I believe the red one is a 1983 issue, but I can't remember if they were licensed or not. If I'm recalling correctly, however, then they don't grade them.

Interesting. I wonder why they have the 1969 year on the back of the pin. Thank you for your insight.
The red one is a fake I believe. If you flip it over and it DOESNT say "Winona, Minn." then its the ca.1983 fakes, and they have no real collector value. They are listed in the SCD Big Book, but without value quotes. They are NOT licensed my MLB.
Santo IS one of the 36 players listed in this fake set.

Oh well. It just cost me 4 bucks. Thanks for the information guys. And yes, at least the blue one is real so I got that going for me, which is nice.
what exactly is the criteria for something to be able to be graded? I mean they will grade match books.. i've been trying to get them to grade the question of sport cards with no luck.. and now i'm waiting to hear back about the 2004 xg xgames cards.. which were licensed and released in packs.. but they are saying they won't grade them because they are not listed anywhere.. which makes no sense to me
Just wanted to point out that it looks like the fake ones have the team name at bottom and the players name at top, while the authentic ones from 1969 are the opposite.
Also it is said the fakes come in blue or red, so you cant just go by color on these.
I bought a lot of 19 MLBPA pins last year on eBay before I had learned there were the 1983 fakes. I got it really cheaply (IIRC about $15 including shipping), probably because bidders in the know realized that the 3 pins shown in the auction photo were fakes (Drysdale, Snider, and McCovey). As it turned out, I lucked out - 12 of the 19 were real, including 2 HOFers (Cepeda and Marichal).

It's only $4. Pin it to a Cubs hat that you wear.
