Greetings from your friendly neighborhood yeti

...speaking of yetis, has anybody heard from laurentyvan?

I'm concerned.

Remember the whole "send LordM to England" thing, to which many of you fine folks pledged donations?

Well, it didn't happen. I'm perfectly OK with that- to tell you the truth, I wasn't quite ready for such a trek this summer, though I still want to do it (someday). I've been gone from the forums a lot and so has Laurent, so I didn't think much of it, and figured, oh well, it's no big deal. If folks wanted to spend their hard-earned money to send me overseas on an amateur archaeology expedition, great! But if not, that's OK, too.

My only concern is that some of you might have not only pledged funds for this trip, but also sent them?

I just got this wormy feelin' in my gut the other day that maybe somebody sent money but never got it back? I don't know- obviously, the fundraising for this trip was something (generously) undertaken by Laurent, and didn't involve me at all. However, since it was done in my name, I'm kind of concerned.

I haven't heard from him. Have any of you? Did any of you make contributions that were never refunded?

Sorry I've been so scarce. If I continue to be off the radar for a while, I wish you all a very happy holiday season and new year.

Ah- I was offline when this 12/5 Laurentyvan update was posted.

    Good. Glad he's OK. image

And I'm not the least bit bothered or worried about the England trip falling through. There's always next year... or not.

I just hope nobody sent money and saw it vanish, that's all.

  • Hey Rob, good to see you back here. There's a recent thread about Laurentyvan around here somewhere... If I recall, he was sick for a while but hopes to be back with us in a short time. I'll see if I can find a link to that thread for you.
  • Well, there you go.image That's the one.

Welcome back. I am sure the donated amounts are making a killing in an interest bearing account image

Welcome back! I sent money for 10 shares and would like to know if it will be returned?

I'm truly sorry to hear that. Those of you who were so generous deserved better communication. It didn't even dawn on me until fairly recently that folks might have actually paid up rather than simply pledged.

Well, I shall try to email him and PM him again. My last attempt to contact him was a aPM sent July 13th. In fact, by that time I was beginning to see that it was getting too late in the season, and I was hinting that maybe we should all discuss the transfer of those funds on to an ailing Brad Swain (Tbirde56). It seemed rather frivolous to have people passing the hat for my dream vacation, when such a fine forum member was in terminal condition. Alas, Brad faded quickly, making it a moot point.

I'm sure laurentyvan will sort it all out when he get well and back with us. Personally, I'd send more money if I thought there was a chance to still pull this off.

Well, I would still love to do it next summer, if folks still wanted to support it. But if anybody changes their mind as a result of the wishy-washiness and/or long silences from both Laurent and I, I certainly understand (and apologize).

Maybe I'll do it on my own dime one day, but that day is pretty far off.

  • Just to let you know Lord M, I was the one who talked to Laurent. This past year he had a lot of health issues. On top of that his computer bit the dust. He doesn't have one now so there is no way to get in touch with him by e-mail or PM. If you PM me I can give you his phone number. I am sure that he would love to hear from you, since he was the one who started the Lord M to England trip.

If Laurent doesn't have a computer, I'll definitely need to get a contact number, yes. Thanks. PM sent.

    HEY! A lord minivan sighting!!

I’m more than happy to hold on to my shares for a trip next year. Expectations on your finds are going up all the time though (dividends!) image

Just get your butt on a plane – I see it’s a straightforward 11h trip to London, usually connecting via Atlanta! imageimage

I donated (sent) a share on 3/1/10. If you're definitely going to use it, I'm content to leave it in the pot, otherwise I wouldn't be averse to getting it back and putting myself down as a pledge instead in case you get to go.

In light of this tragic news, I'd like to dedicate all the proceeds from the sale of my donations to Cameron's family; if Laurent or Rob could help facilitate this, I'd be very grateful. Laurent knows the exact items that were auctioned off and will know how much was received from these donated items.

    Thank you very much!
