My question is if this is such a "rare" checklist on the back of the card, how in the hell does the seller not show this in a picture?
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have no idea, my guess is a PSA 8 tells the story.

I would like to think at some point their reputation means something.

Either way this is going to go for huge cash!

A PSA Mint 9 #16 Checklist sold for $2,795 in 2004.......4k for an 8???? Just wish i was the seller on this one.

  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
Go check this PSA SMR history, all three sold for $75,000 in PSA 9 as a lot and it is a real sale

This should go for $10,000+ is my guess

Like I said no skin in the game just having fun watching somone spend big money on cards

Over 5 large - not bad.

No "nyuk nyuk nyuk" over that price.
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
Yeah that is a big number.

Someone was saying this is a fake market with only one guy buying the cards, I think a sale like this with this many bidders tells me there is more then one person interested in these cards.

  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
3 people were seriously interested in that card.

    Steve
    Good for you.

This is a funny thread. By the way, have fond memories of watching the 3 Stooges as a kid. Damn funny!

The Stooges were /are a "guy thing." Tell your wife you're gonna watch a Stooges Marathon and her eyes will roll into the back of her head. For some unknown reason, to most - all? - women, the Stooges are lame. Their 70+ year old movie shorts crack me up every time.
  • I think the seller might have left some money on the table, why in the world don't you show the back of the card or any card that is going to sell for 1K or more let alone one that is going to go for 5K+.

I mean an extra pic is only 15 cents geez just don't understand the logic for not showing both sides of the card.

And then say "And look at the great deal I got on this 3 Stooges Card ... ONLY $5,000.00. YUP, the same one we paid a penny for when we were kids! LMAO
    STAY HEALTHY!

Vlad I have no position on these cards at all.

I just like tracking stuff on EBAY and the rare high grade cards from this set can go nuts.

  • Does anyone own the 3 stooges dvd shorts? I have volume 1-3. Many of the early ones you don't see on tv.

The first short, Woman Hater from 1934 is done entirely in rhyme. We Want our Mummy is probably my favorite early one.
  • I own the entire DVD run. I waited a long time for it to be released in one collection like that.

"An Ache in Every Stake" is my all time favorite.

Don't kid yourself....the bubble on the 9's have been popping and crashing back down to earth!
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
I am not kidding myself about anything. I just enjoy watching auctions blow up.
  • bobbyw8469bobbyw8469 Posts: 7,139 ✭✭✭
Yea...how about a PSA 9 Stooge sold for over $1,000 last year....this year......$200......sounds like blowing up to me!!!! More like IMPLODING!
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
So let me get this straight, I am talking about this auction, if you don't think $5k is blowing up then I guess we have different thoughts on cards.

I don't collect any of these and referenced one auction. Go back to ripping people off and not disclosing information.

High grade checklists are still the target of the 13 set buyer and, as you can see by the pop report, are tough and in extreme demand and are NOT representative of the balance of the Stooges market. Since the main buyer of this set has virtually all of his sets completed in PSA 9, the market for the PSA 9's that used to be $1500-2000, is now $200-500 aside from a few exceptions. The market was a FALSE market as it was inflated by one specific buyer trumping all bids and now that he's not actively seeking most cards, the market has fallen since his end of the competition was removed.
  • otwcardsotwcards Posts: 5,291 ✭✭✭
And considering that he paid $25K per PSA 9 of the checklist, I think $5K for this PSA 8 might actually be a bit soft. I typically value at about 40-60% when dropping a grade. This example was 20% of the 9...
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
Well considering a PSA 8 Curly in the SMR is $1100 and a Mint one is $12,000 I would suspect the rarity is somewhat similar with the checklists.

The bottom line is there were mutlitple bidders near the $5,000 mark so all he really has to do is press them and then take his foot of the peddle.

  • Amazing.

<< <i>Well considering a PSA 8 Curly in the SMR is $1100 and a Mint one is $12,000 I would suspect the rarity is somewhat similar with the checklists. >>

The only sales record for a PSA 8 Curly was over $8500 and a PSA 8.5 was over $9300.

The previous sales on the #16 Checklist in PSA 8 were over $12,000 and $7600, in PSA 9 they were $20,000 and $25,000 and in PSA 10 $16,800. Based upon the sales history of the #16 Checklist back, the $5500 was a little lighter than expected...
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
That makes since. I don't follow these closely and saw in the SMR that the three checklists sold for $75,000 in PSA 9.

Either way $5k for a checklist of any card is a lot.

Is December a month where card sales and values tend to fall off or are there not any seasonal patterns in cards?

The Mars Attacks checklist PSA 8 recently sold for almost $10,000.....
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
Great, some how you are missing the point. I like to watch items sell for a lot on EBAY. A $5,000 item, a $10,000 item a $1,000,000 item is all the same to me. It is simply watching some action.

I like seeing people fight over cards.

Im confused...a Mars Attacks card selling for $10 dimes isn't a lot of money??!?!?!
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
I think any card selling for more then $1,000 is a lot of money.

    $10,000 is huge money

Once again I just like watching items blow up. This was at $800 with less then a day to go. I call that action when it surges from $800 to $5,000 in the last day.

Thanks to this thread, it made me educate myself about this set. I had always been curious about it because I see these cards selling for big money at shows and card shops, and wondered what was up with it. Now I know!

Dpeck, are you a Magic or Pokemon player? image
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
    No not at all.

But I have to admit I love watching the Black Lotus card on EBAY!

I only collect Wrestling All Stars at this point.

Don't make fun of Magic players. image

Just wrapping up selling 91 dual lands on the bay. Damn good money to be had still with these.

I actually enjoy these threads to get an idea of what nonsports cards are doing currently in this shiatty economy.
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
I know it breaks the hearts of many but in reality those Magic cards are stronger then all of the sports cards in the past 25 years easily.

A mint Black Lotus is worth a ton!

I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a skin in this game.
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
    In the 3 Stooges?

  • Speaking of non-sports and Magic cards. I always see lots for sale on Craigslist. What do I look for to know if it's a good deal or bad deal? I understand the Alpha version are good especially Black Lotus.
  • Gotta tell you, I'm jealous of guys like Lee that have skin in this game.

I must admit, I originally didn't want to have skin in the game, but when the opportunity presented itself I really had no choice. In the end, having skin in this game was the best way to go for me.

presumably, after a visit to the moyel the Stooges had a little less skin in the game.
  • The 3 horsemen episode was hilarious.
Anyone ever catch a glimpse of Lucille Ball in that episode?
She was one of the 3 dames. The voice was undeniable, but she
was a blonde at 19 or 20 yrs old in it.
