Looking for information on my 1974/4 Colombia 5 centavos

Picked up a couple of these a few years back because I thought they were neat, but haven't been able to find out anything about them on my occasional journeys to the dark side. Did all the 1974s come like this? Any info would be appreciated.

    What a cool coin!

Krause indicates "varieties exist for 1967, 1970, and 1973" but shows nothing special for 1974. I don't have any specialized reference for Colombia, so Krause is the best I can do.

Do all your examples look to be from the same pair of dies?

I can't spot any real difference, but wish I was knowledgable enough to tell for sure. I can say that the absence of denticles around the perimeter of both the obverse and reverse is a bit more severe on the second coin. On the pictured coin's obverse, they fade out over the "L" in Republica and pick up again over the second "O" in Colombia. On the other one, they lose definition over the "B" in Republica and pick up between the "OM".
On the reverse of the pictured coin, I count five denticles starting below the bottom leaf on the left side, and they remain distinct going clockwise until almost the bottom of the "S" in centavos. On the second coin, there are only two below the bottom left leaf, and they fade out about halfway between the bottom right leaf and the top of the "S" in centavos. But that could just be a difference in strike, or die wear. The second coin is also MS red, but maybe a bit below the one above.

I've got a 1 centavo of the same type from 1965. The "1" is quite fat and oversized, like it was crudely re-engraved. The "9" is recut, but not as dramatically as the "4" on your coin. Both the "6" and the "5" are filled in, the "5" much more than the "6". (Sorry, I don't have a good way to photograph it at the moment.)

There was definitely some weirdness going on in the mint during that time.

These are VERY common in Colombian coins from the 60's and 70's. At one show some years ago I cherrypicked about 30 different Colombian RPDs which I later sold on ebay. They go for a little premium over a normal coin, but not much. They are very cool though!

That's where I got both of mine, 4-5 years ago at least. Two different sellers, I think. Maybe one was you. I wouldn't mind owning a few others. They are pretty cool.

Yeah, it could have been me. Thanks for purchasing them!
