'meeting Hank Aaron, Yogi, and Whitey Ford. **PICTURE AND VIDEO POSTED**

Hank Aaron / Yogi Berra / Whitey Ford signing 12/11/10 NYC

I will be standing in the presence of 3 legends tomorrow. I am having Hank sign the outside of this PSA holder...
image

I have met Yogi before, I worked on a TV commercial with him - the cutest, best man. I am definitely very excited to meet Hammerin' Hank...

Have you met him/them before?

12-1:30 tomorrow, stay tuned!

  • Have fun! That is a great group of legends you will be mingling with!

I was going to attend that show for an Aaron auto. He is the last I need for my 63 Leaders card. When I found out it was at the Last Licks in the city, I decided not to go. If it had been held in Rye Brook like last time, I would have gone. It's a pain in the arse to get to that particular Last Licks, especially when Im not good getting around the city LOL

I mailed my card in. Enjoy meeting the 3 great legends!

I met him on several occassions at different card show signings in the mid 1980's. He was ok, he (or the promoters) just wanted to keep the lines moving to sign as many things as possible. I think I have his sig on a few balls and index cards. best of luck!

Make sure Hank signs it backwards to match your rare backwards-printed slab and card image

I met Hank Aaron at a card show in Anaheim CA back in 1982. He was great! I got a couple autographs from him image

I can't ever recall the words "cutest" and Yogi Berra" in the same sentence before.
  • But, he is so cute!

I'm reading the Howard Bryant biography of Aaron right now ("The Last Hero"). Very interesting book; funny that none of his friends / family refer to him by Hank; to them he is always Henry. "Hank" is the baseball person, and Henry is the real person. Sounds like it's an important distinction to him.

  • Thanks everyone, what up D bone!

I actually have a hook-up at Steiner and I was just invited to come early at 11:30. Don't know what that means or what it will entail, but Mug-ee will soon be V-I-P!

    Camera rolling if possible...

Hey scooter729... I think I'll call him Mr. Aaron and I'll probably chicken out of calling him "Henry."

I'm not an autograph guy, but I'd love to have Aaron's...not for $175 though. I remember when it was a fraction of that amount. Anyway, good luck. Too bad Yogi couldn't make it.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • I have been waiting for so long to have Hank aaron sign a pack with him on top, so I just gotta do it for any price.

What do you mean shagrotn77, Yogi can't make it?

***Update: Uh oh, I did just see on Steiner Sports' website that Yogi has been postponed, I hope he is feeling ok.

I paid the 175 cuz its the only way to get my project done. There are a few others who have done/are doing this same card...1963 NL Home Run Leaders. Aaron is the final one! There was someone else last month that charged 250 for Aaron flats...considering, 175 isnt a bad deal LOL

It's worth it on projects but not worth it for single signed cards or baseballs. Too many out there already and for much cheaper. Such is the life of someone who likes multi signed cards! I cant wait to get it back in my hands!

This is it before Ernie Banks signing it...I never scanned it after Banks but I will pop it up completed when I get it back...
    image

If no one passes away and I can catch up with Bill White (very elusive), Aaron will be my final on this card as well...and right now, its out for Tommy Davis to sign...

I pulled it off, thanks for all of your comments!

    SWEET! Looks great!
  • Now you have to get it framed in a shadow box with double glass and hang it from the ceiling so both sides of the slab are visible at all times. That will only set you back about another $200! image

  • The Bagel store across the street, D bone! But, yeah... Always!

'Definitely a very fun experience today, I was in the presence of a legend! It was great to see the enormous turnout and all the kids with their dads. There was a line around the block, at least 200 people deep.

Muggyman was pointed out and escorted in, then swiftly pushed through. My friend who helped with the connection (and videographer) got a free baseball signed by both Henry and Whitey!

    And, Mug!

Please believe me when I say this, I'm not trying to be a smartass here but why would you have the front of slab signed instead of say, well, anything else? Why not just have the actual card signed and then get it slabbed?

Did Hank say "1975" when he was signing that 75 cello? LOL, great shot!

Does the signature look like it is going to hold up on the slab?

I would think potential problems could be smearing, flaking, and scratching, to name a few.

Premature fading is the only thing I'd worry about. Muggy probably should have brought an extra thick black marker instead of reaching for that standard blue sharpie, but if he gets it framed up in a dual-view shadow box with UV coating, it should be good for a long while.

EDIT: The world is ending in 2012 anyway, so who cares?!

  • Thanks everyone, this turned out to be a great thread and it was just a spur of the moment kinda thing.. the night before I was simply thinking about meeting them and I said to myself that I should tell the CU boards about the signing, ask for some autograph suggestions, and hear other people's previous encounters with these legends. I truly value all your feedback and opinions - allow me to address most comments.

Oh, and the first thing I said to him was, "Wow, Mr. Aaron, you still look young enough to play!"

Mozzie22: <<Please believe me when I say this, I'm not trying to be a smartass here but why would you have the front of slab signed instead of say, well, anything else? Why not just have the actual card signed and then get it slabbed?>>
Muggyman reply: I don't know, I'm sure most people on here will say it was stupid to have Mr. Aaron sign the outside of a slab, albeit a pack. Well, I don't collect autographs at all and I have no interest in just a baseball or photo being signed because all I collect is packs - I actually bought this $200+ pack months ago for this purpose. To have him sign on a card would have also been cool and obviously much rarer than a ball or photo, but I will never open this 1 of 1 slab/pack so, it really is just a unique collectible to have for me. Yeah, 'probably not the most logical way to recoup my money back from it, but I just think it is such a cool item to have (did I mention 1 of 1?) that I just will keep as a display and a memory.

I have a few other packs like this (1975 Keith Hernandez, 82 Nolan Ryan front and back, 84 Mattingly) and most recently, I had Ron Guidry sign the cello pack itself not in the PSA holder. This, I will be sending into PSA to grade the auto and then the pack itself will get graded.

Thanks for your comment Mozzie22, no offense taken. in summary... I'm just not your average bear!

Thank you for sharing your encouraging words, HeritageAddict, yankeeno7, Carew29, milbroco, shagrotn77, Dboneesq, gonzer, thenavarro, zep33, baseballfan, Halico, bman90278, and jeffcbay.

Mug Lova response: Eh, looks good for now and should not smear, but who knows about 20 years down the road.
