Just received notification from the Mint they'll be charging me soon via subscription for the 2011 P

Which got me to thinking......
When I was born in 1958, my grandparents started giving me a proof set every year. After they passed away, they stopped, but my parents & I resumed the tradition as each of my boys was born.
Now I'm asking myself whether or not it's worth continuing the tradition (via the Mint's subscription service), as sets become more and more expensive.....
Aside from aesthetics & tradition, are they still worth getting from the Mint, or might I do better on average after a few years when they can often be bought at a discount from their original price? Or has that trend reversed itself in recent years & are they still a good value?
The Mint just keeps marking them up and up, and, until now, I have just kept buying........ But I'm wondering recently whether I'd have been better off getting the boys something else for that money .....
Comments? Suggestions?
Thanks!

I forgot to mention that I accidently bought an extra 2000 Proof set 10 years ago. Any offers in trade for it?
