I love my v300, but the only thing that bothers me is the patterned reflection on the slabs, around the edges. Can't seem to get rid of those. Oh well, it's as clear as can be! The other thing I notices was, when you scan a modern foil card, it makes the lead edge look really weird. Dunno why. Still love it.
I just love the fact that I can put four cards on the bed, set the four marquees and scan all four into separate files and reload the bed continuously scanning for cards at a time, each going into its own file (I could do this on my HP, too, but the image quality is so much better on the Epson). Great for uploading later or putting on disc for insurance purposes...
In the Marquee, there are four symbols plus an "ALL" button. Crop the first card. The top right will copy the crop and then you can move it over the next card (assuming the cards are the same size. Repeat this for the other cards. The lower right should then read "4." Click "ALL" and then scan. It should scan each of the four into separate files. Replace the cards with the next group in the same spots as the others and then just click scan and it should repeat. Do this until your done and you should have all of the cards in one folder with each being a single image. Good luck.

If you have Photoshop you can gang scan even faster- make one scan with the cards not touching, and then run "crop and straighten" and it will automatically crop the scan to individual cards, making 4 separate files. No moving of marquees, no need for time consuming prescans. I'll scan 15-20 sets of 4 cards, then run "crop and straighten" and walk away. 20 minutes later it's all done.

Congrats on your new scanner....Your new scans look great. I've been using the Epson V500 for a couple of years and I really like it. I'm sure you will have nothing but great luck with the V300. Also, like Griffins said, the use of Photoshop will greatly help you save time and get the exact scans you are wanting.
I've had this scanner for a little over one year (guessing) and I LOVE IT! HOWEVER, I just use the basic functions. I am going to have to try what Anthony wrote about! THANKS GUYS!
STAY HEALTHY!

What do you mean by "marquee"?....I am in professional mode. Are you talking about the main window that pops up before you even scan/preview the cards?

Crop and Straighten has alway been in Photoshop and unless it's better in CS5, it does make a lot of errors (at least with raw cards). Sometimes it cuts part of cards off, does not straighten them all the time and I've never been able to find an option to leave say a small 2 mm border around the card - for selling raw cards on ebay so the corners can be seen. Mileage may vary. I've used it a lot for cards on my website that I don't care if if I have to chop off a couple pixels here and there but I would never use it on cards for sale.
Never used it for slabs since I don't have that many
Zep, doesn't work for raw cards, for the reasons you stated. But for slaps it works perfectly. Occassionaly it will crop them crooked, and on those you have to give the raw scan a second pass, but 90% of the time it works flawlessly. If you write an action that adds a bit of sharpening (all scans are inherently soft and need a bit of sharpening) a touch of contrast (same is true that a good scan is a bit flat to have detail in the blacks) and then crop and straighten it will greatly speed the process.

I've been happy with setting up the first 4-pack and then just swapping out and one-clicking the rest of the 4-somes. I set it once, run all of the quads and in merges every card as individual files into a single folder. No extra keystrokes or importing or running other software. I'm sure the Photoshop aspect is great, but since I don't have the software, it is a moot point for me.

The foursomes work good.
