Great ebay pickup for a custom cut JFK "rookie" card
Just sharing a sweet pickup I made on ebay late last week. Authentic JFK sigs are relatively tough, as he made extensive use of secretarials and autopens during his career, and is also quite frequently forged. However, because of this, you can occasionally find some great bargains on ebay as people are afraid to buy "un-authenticated" sigs as they don't know how to tell the difference. I saw this item listed and immediately I could telll it was an authentic JFK sig (I used to deal in Presidents for years and am pretty good authenticating specific ones) , but the condition of the entire item as a whole was horrible:

The seller was unresponsive for the most part as to the extent of the damage or even whether or not the plastic was stuck to the whole piece, whether or not it was lamination, etc. However, from the looks of the scan, I had the feeling that I could remove the plastic and have a nice, choice JFK sig. I ended up winning the auction for $382 or so. I got it in the mail today and it was in one of those "i'm sorry we damaged your item, blah, blah, blah" postal bags so my joy of getting a "deal" temporarily turned sour. However, once I opened it, there wasn't anymore damage to the piece then there was before. I immediately began to free the JFK from it's plasticy confines and was succesful.
I now have a beautiful, 100% authentic, John F. Kennedy signature that I intend to make into a custom cut 1963 Rosan trading card for my signed rookie card collection and then have PSA/DNA slabbed. The seller left a LOT of money on the table by not cutting the sig out and having it authenticated before they auctioned it.
I'm stoked!!!

<< <i>What's the going rate for an authenticated JFK signature? >>
They range wildly depending on medium they are signed on, condition and eye appeal just like cards, however, I think you'd be hard pressed to find authenticated examples for anything less than $1500 or so for full sigs.

<< <i>Just out of curiosity, did you quick opinion it before buying? >>
No, I didn't. I felt comfortable buying it as is. While I utilize PSA/DNA a LOT, I did not feel it to be necessary for this one.

Great stuff.

Here's the sweetest JFK that I used to have (sold it in March 2005 for close to $5,000), kinda wish I had it back. It was an autogaphed appointment for the first US Ambassador to Rwanda.
