A little help needed with this case

http://cgi.ebay.com/1981-TOPPS-BASEBALL-CELLO-CASE-16-BOX-/160517119367?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item255f90dd87

Does it look like the original staples on top of the case were cut & removed ? I see holes next to all 4 staples, just a little further out. Does this look legit ?

thanks

No opinion, but here is the pic to limit clicks:

  • can't really tell... I'd ask for a close up pic on the top of the box. Normally those stables dig down and you don't see the ends

  • not 100% positive but for stapler to work it has to have something to bend the staples up and under. if not the staples would go directly into the product. the outside holes were probably caused by a short "fang" that the staple would then hit and bend up and under.

    Go ahead & ask
If you get more than "This is the only picture we have"
    then I would be amazed

would the staples bend inwards, and not outwards, like a regular staple ?

    I dont see "fangs"
    I see holes

Like old holes from the old staples
and the new staple machine used smaller staples

    just a theory

if that was the reply I got I would pass and move on unless the price was worth the risk - got to love the poor ebay customer service.

If I was selling it, I would take the extra 5 seconds to mention either in the title or the details that it's a "factory sealed" case. Or "unopened" or something, at least. Assuming it is, of course . . .

I believe cases are glued and never stapled.. that would have been done after the fact.. perhaps opened
    to verify contents and closed.
a factory case.. just not a factory sealed case
  • Cello cases were usually sent to the retail stores as far as the staples go some had them some didn't.
just moving the case around would sometimes cause the staples to tear through the cardboard.

could have also been restapled by the candy distributor. could also be a case that was returned to Topps then redistributed.

the case looks fine and if I was looking for 81 topps cello case I wouldn't have a problem with this one, except for the price which seems High to me. shouldn't an 81 topps cello case go for about 1200 to 1350? jmho
