Ken Potter Adds 2009 Formative Doubled Dies to website

Some recognition from a well respected author, and 2010 inductee into the CONECA Hall of Fame.

Thanks Ken ! Is the Cherrypicker next ?

My best wishes to Ken and his wife, for a speedy recovery to their medical struggles.

It's interesting to read about a "Top 12" designation given to some known 2009 FY DDRs, although he currently only lists 5 for sale.

The current listings are divided in 6 and 7 finger categories.

This is simply FYI for all you mutual admirers of the 2009 FY Doubled dies.

The only major variety I see there is the WDDR oo2. He doesn't have the best ones like the WDDR 001 or WDDR 006 but I suppose we have to start somewhere to get these going.

    Thank You Ken.

I'm sure Ken's listings are a work in progress.

I'm glad to see a "Top 12" designation, rather than the 32 on another list.

You'll have to ask Ken. It's not my web site.

    I'm not finding a Top 12.

    Where is that referenced?

Also, where's the Skeleton Finger? (WDDR-006)
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Hi there. I'm sorry Ken's listing isn't more clear.

Apparently Ken's has chosen 12, himself, to be called the "Top 12"

If you read the descriptions of the coins he has listed, I think you'll get the jist of it.

He, currently does not have 12 coins listed. Perhaps he's working on that.

Again, you'll have to ask Ken. It's not my web site.

    Ah. I re-read your post.

"It's interesting to read about a "Top 12" designation given to some known 2009 FY DDRs," does not necessarily mean that Ken has chosen a Top 12 (unbless he's written about it somewhere else) as I interpreted it to mean.

Do you think his prices are right or just wishful?

He does say that there is a top 12 listing in the "Variety Coin Register ". I belive that is his publication.

Pricing? Honestly, at this point I don't know.

I believe those prices are for coins he's actually selling. He says in his listing that he's offering some of these in his "national ads".

When operating expenses are factored in, I don't think the prices are unreasonable. Remember, it's retail, he's a professional; not Ebay.
  • I like hearing this. Makes me happy to of been a part of finding the first ones. With more and more known big figures showing these the light of day bodes pretty well with their( the 09 DDR's) futures. Thank you Papi for your research and help with these.

For this wondering about the Top 12 2009 Extra Fingers Doubled Dies I alluded to ... I was my intention while editing the Cherrypickers' Guide 6th Edition Vol 1 to add 12 but I needed acquire and shoot three more. Unfortunately I had gotten cancer in 2006 and was finally diagnosed with what was causing me so much pain in 2007 and was treated in 2008 with me going into remission in December 2008. I struggled from the later part of 2006 and into 2010/11 trying to write for Numismatic News as often as they wanted (pretty much every print issue) and to edit CPG but finally had to give up and work more on my health. All of the new varieties that I assigned new FS numbers were forwarded to Mike Ellis who almost immediately stated he didn't want to include the 2009 Fingers varieties at. But he was forced to include the first 8 or 9 as the Red Book had already pulled them from my electronic files for which they had access and included them in the Red Book. None of the other dozens of varieties I shot and assigned FS numbers to went in. In spite of the fact that I kept working on the images day after day, week after week in an attempt to improve them over what were already good images and in spite of the fact I have many emails from Mike telling me the new improved images I was sending him "were great and to keep them coming" he at first couldn't remember why he didn't use them. Then a week or two later he said he remembered I had sent him all thumbnail images (in spite of the fact I have never created a thumbnail image in my life) that were in too low of a resolution to work (though they worked fine everywhere else in the print media).
