Ebay NESC

I have read all the threads about them being the leftovers of 4 sharp corners etc. My querstion concerns 1980 Topps Baseball. In looking at 4SC auctions it appears they no longer submit anything other than stars it appears? Or is this just a slow time for them? Reason I ask is that I bought a couple of 800 count lots from NESC and theyappear to be very nice, like they were part of a vending case, no stars of course but many of the commons appear pretty close to perfect, definately 9 material in here. Anybody paid attention recently to see if 4SC are still submitting common 1980 cards or not?

I would guess the only way to make $$ is submit lower pops and star cards. Anything they make selling the "leftovers" is just cake. Glad to see someone is happy with their stuff. imageimage

It's funny, I was actually thinking about NESC last night.

I can't speak for everyone but the reason I disliked NESC was because I found their cards to be in lower condition as they state in their listings.

When I found out they were actually 4SC "rejects" I was really upset and turned off altogether.

Now that I don't collect graded cards as much as I used to I have to say that I like the NESC cards. Is a "Mint" card really a "NM" card...sure...but they present themselves well being pack/vending fresh.

At least I don't have to worry about buying the same card from somebody else advertised as "Mint" and it actually end up trimmed or altered in some other way...or way way off on the grading.

I do think NESC would do well if they just came out and sold under the 4SC name. But they are banking on the new submitter to come by and purchase items to sub.

Not only that. Think about it. Would you really buy a raw card when the same seller had a psa 9 and a psa 10 for sale as well? I know I wouldn't mainly because when a seller has examples of raw and graded of the same card you know that card was cherry picked and was rejected for grading.

  • I agree but thats why I asked my original question. It does not appear to me that 4SC is selling/submitting ant 1980 stuff other than stars right now. My thinking was if they are not submitting then they woudlnt be cherry picking. Many sellers sell both raw and graded cards on ebay.
  • I have been trying to put together a MINT 80 Topps set for several months now, and I've also wondered this exact same thing about NESC's lots. They've had many different lots and complete sets for sale.

All of their lots are advertised as 'mint'. I feel pretty confident that the cards are vending fresh, but 'mint'? I think at BEST case scenario, the cards might have sharp corners but the centering could still be all over the place. (after all, PSA considers these cards MINT-OC)

I emailed once, inquiring about this, asking them if the cards were centered, but of course I never got a response.

Another thing I've noticed about all of their lots is the fact that only some of them specifically say that all of the cards are different. All of the others are just advertised at "80 Topps lot of 800"
Those lots could contain 20-30 of the same guy.

If you do decide to give them a try, I'd be very interested in what you get
  • I received and went through one of their 800 card lots last night. The first thing I noticed is you can tell they come from a vending case as they have that brick look that if you ever open a vending box you know what I mean. Centering was all over the place but most were well centered. Corners sharp for the most part, soem dings and the end of the bricks were warped on a few cards. No stars obviously and i'm sure the best of the best have been picked out but what is left is definately good enough for most peoples raw sets. I don't purchase raw 1980 to slab so i'm not really concerned about what is not in there, only what is. Another thing to remember is the price difference between an untouched 1980 vending box and these 800 card lots. I paid $25 plus shipping or roughly 3.6 cents per card for the 800 count lot when you include shipping. To me that is more economical than the price of an unopened vending box (don't even know what one goes for as it's out of my price range). One thing is for sure after buying other lots off ebay called "mint" NESC mint is much better than other folks claiming mint. As for duplicates on the 800 count lots the most I got of any one player was I think 4 and i'm guessing those were the ones that were double printed.
  • Cool, thanks for sharing all that. I totally missed the part of your OP that said you had bought a couple of lots. Sounds like they were pretty nice. I might pick one up tonight. At $30-$35 delivered, it wouldn't be too much of a gamble.

I bought a $3.00 from NESC and just got it in the mail today (paid on the 4th). It came in a PWE. I was shocked, but at the same time, I can't complain. It was free shipping, and a low dollar card. The card was in a Card Saver, and was luckily undamaged. I'm sure they would treat a high dollar card a little better. It was just a shock to see a high volume seller do something like that. Oh well, I would still buy from them. I just have to remind myself it'll be shipped in a PWE.

    That is a surpise Jeff.

It is true that this is the raw card ID of 4 Sharp Corners.

I may be in the minority but I am thrilled these guys exist. If you are a set collector you need dealers like them to sub cards many would not. I have purchased at least 50 graded cards from them and they have made it possible for me to work towards mint condition sets.

It has gotten too expensive to buy tons of raw sets of the cards I am trying to find and instead these guys offer graded cards and this saves me time and money.

They have marketed the raw cards of the sets I collect as NM so I suspect NESC is close to acurate raw grading.
