ebay "you choose" auctions - are they now legal?

At one time, auctions such as this were not allowed on ebay:

1973 you choose

I have found a link that indicates ebay has relaxed it's "choice auction" restrictions, but it's still not clear to me if the way it is used with regards to sports cards is technically legal.

I never understood why it wasn't allowed before. I always felt that if it was allowed, it would benefit both the seller and the buyer.

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks,

Tom

Tom -- I've used them a few times over the past six months, or so, with no issues.

I think they were "reinstated" about a year ago.

Thanks Scott, that's good news that you were able to list some auctions that way.

I dont have a problem with those type of listings, even though I dont feel I will ever purchase them, but I wish ebay would do something about how theyre listed. I like to browse different areas and it seems like when you go to the "lots" area of any specific category you end up with a lot of these, "Mystery Lots", "Lot includes at least one of xxx", "Lot contains xxx BV and may contain xxx card" or the previously mentioned "Year XXXX Topps, your choice".

In many sections, it can be has high as HALF the listings are nothing more than clever ways to get rid of junk crap.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
