Does 60's Hockey Wax exist anymore?

i see that Steve has nothing prior to 1970.
That got me to thinking if there is any left out there?

It seems as though there was a pack of '69 Topps or OPC in a recent auction. But you're right, there is a real lack of unopened 60s product. I wonder if the holy grail, a pack of '66 Topps, even exists.

Check out memory lanes newest auction.
They have some unreal stuff including a 54-55 Topps pack.

  • i will have to check that out.

the cool thing about those early to mid 60s Topps sets is that they consisted of 66 cards. im guessing the packs must have had 8 or so per pack
    great odds! lol

  • If you like vintage hockey wax, there was some great stuff in mastros auction a few years ago. Maybe back in 2005? Stuff you just never see, may never see again. They had a small find of packs.

    60-61
61-62 (I think they had 17 packs? 25? it was quite a few, but you dont see them anymore)
65-66 (they had a bunch of these, maybe 30) Where did they all go?!?

Here's some scans I've collected from auctions (I dont own any of them)

  • LOL. I've got some more. I use to be more in the habit of saving stuff you don't see everyday.

-That tall boy pack was pretty incredible, I think it was in a memory lane auction, maybe 3 or 4 years ago. You see 65 tall boy football and 69 basketball occasionally, but I think thats the only hockey one I've ever seen.

Some display boxes (I think all mastro auction)

    (1960-61 Topps)

(1957 Parkhurst. I think there use to be a couple of these, you dont see them anymore)

You never know what you might find in some of the Estate Sales,Old Ma & Pa stores in small rural/urban towns just like anything else.
Example Paris Tennesee back in the 80s old store owner had boxes of 54&55 Topps & Bowman Baseball in the store basement.Store had been closed for several years. So you can never really say there is none out there hiding in some corner long forgotten by the purchaser.52 Topps were also found on an old barn about the same time. There may be very little discovered in the future that might hit the market but you never know.

  • Very interesting thread, love seeing those pics! There was an old flip GAI 9 1958 Parkhurst hockey pack on eBay for some time until quite recently. I almost pulled the trigger on it a couple times with the intent of crossing it over to PSA but I was a little nervous about dropping a lot of coin for a GAI label, even if it was an old one. Also, not a wax pack, but I did see a 1968 Topps hockey vending box for sale in auction very recently (can't remember where exactly) that had an accompanying letter from Steve Hart.

I've always wondered if an unopened pack of 1951 Parkhurst exists. Anyone here have any knowledge of this?

    Nice videos.

I'd be ripping them with my hands and teeth image
  • Great pack videos! Who's the dealer in the 57 topps and parkhurst pack openings?

I was thinking about this, hockey sets are only 66 cards, only 50 for many parkhurst sets. About a 1/10th of the baseball sets. The population in canada is about a 1/10th vs america. But it seems like the packs are 50 or 100 times rarer. Maybe american collectors don't get to see the full extent of what's out there.

I've followed the pack market informally ever since seeing Mark Murphy and Darren Princes ads in the 90's in SCD. They had some cool stuff you don't see anymore. It's funny what pops up out of the blue.

-1953 Topps baseball nickel packs were thought to be nonexistent. Then a bunch of them showed up in the early 2000's.
-1957/58 Topps basketball packs. A small collection of those were found.
-Larry Fritsch. A lot of 60's, early 70's vending.
-55 Topps football all american cellos.

The only hockey packs from the 50's I've ever seen are...54 topps 1 cent, and 5 cent. 57 topps. 57 parkhurst. 58 parkhurst.
  • Nice videos, those vintage breaks are awesome. People talk about Fritsch and their unopened. Do they have anything besides what they show on their site. Basically, are they holding items back for appreciation purposes?
