My tribute to Mr. Santo

My Santo Master Set

He will be missed for sure. I had the pleasure of meeting Ron a couple times when he came to St. Louis. A true Cub.

Thanks guys. My dad had a friend that worked as an usher at Busch stadium for the press box area. Needless to say, we took advantage a couple times when the Cubs came to town. Ron was a class act and a gem of a person to talk to and listen to. He will be missed.

    Very nice tribute.

  • I have lived in Chicago my whole life and this was a big loss. Ronnie is the most important and popular Cub player of all time in my opinion. Each generation knows, loves and respects Santo. I still also can't believe he's not in the HOF but that discussion is for another day. We miss you Ronnie!

Nathan, I finally had the time to look at your Santo master set - it is amazing.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you become such a big Santo fan (only because you look a tad young to have watched him play)?

Also, have I been living under a rock, or are team cards part of every player's master set?

Thanks for the kind words about my collection. I requested the team cards to be added to the master set to get some variety. PSA allows any card that has a players picture on it to be added to the registry. They don't allow things like team checklists without pictures like from the 73 and 74 Topps sets. I was born in 74 so I never saw him play baseball. Growing up in southern Illinois and living in St. Louis, I always had access to the Cubs radio broadcasts so that sparked my original interest in Ron. I started collecting his cards specifically after watching his movie "This Old Cub". I only collect him so that made it pretty easy to amass a nice collection. Thanks for the questions.

I ran across this 8 by 10 that a friend made for me a few years ago that I had Ron sign for me. He thought it was cool so that was pretty neat.
