OT: Information for my new sportscard and music blog

Encouraged by my children I recently started a blog:

http://musicandsportscard.blogspot.com

In it initially I will me listing my top 1230 songs in order in groups of 25 with comments as well as offering comments on my graded sportscard and non-sportscard collection and the graded sportscard industry. Please feel free to chime in.

I remain a big supporter of PSA and expect to continue to post periodically on the CU Set Registry message boards.

Happy Holidays to All.

Jim

How many 50- something Wall St execs have a playlist that includes Baby Got Back?
I think it's a pretty cool blog, I love reading lists like this. Can't wait to see the cards get added.

    Anthony,

As soon as I can figure it out I will scan some cards for the blog.

At least I will promise some card postings soon....but perhaps not as controversial as I usede to post.

    Hammered,

I think that music and what you like is a personal thing. Maybe I am influenced by the looks of the three girls....and its not like the song is in the top 1,000.

I really like the Bangles who have a song in my Top 50.

As you will see if you follow it, there is a tremendous variety.

I'm impressed that you can rank that many songs
    I don't know if I could even rank 100

And Baby Got Back would make my listimage

    Hammered,

Believe it or not, this is my 5th edition done over a 3-year period. I started out at 750 but I kept thinking of songs I liked. Now I am at 1230.

I think Baby Got Back should be higher image. His other big hit Jump mon It is in my Top 100.

Will be fascinating to see the rest of the list.

I see some of these songs and say "Man, I'm thrilled that there is 1,200 songs better than this. In fact, I'm surprised the number isn't double." With others, I am scratching my head as to how they're ranked so low.

Besides personal preference -- any thoughts into your ranking algorithm?
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Every few months I redo the list, sometimes starting at the top and sometimes at the bottom taking into account new songs I am adding at each time. It takes me quite some time to do as whenever I get to a point where I am in doubt as to which song should be ranked higher I listen to the songs on You Tube and think about it......what song deserves to be #347 Rock the Casbah by The Clash or Alejandro by Lady Gaga for example....or should David Gates and Bread's song The Diary be there.....and I do this for each spot

I reread Billboard's book on all the songs ever to make the Top 100 in any week 1955-2007 each time. My kids alert me to new songs. I always have a radio going in the car and I have 1,000-plus albums, 8 tracks, cds to refer to. There is a wide diversity of style and time period and recently new wave bands from the 80s are increasingly moving up the charts.

Dunno if I could rank them in order but I know I have way more than 1200 songs that I like - my mp3 collection of regular songs alone has something like 8500 songs in it, maybe more. I've got another 4000 tracks of music from video games as well.

No way I'm going to try and rank those image

As a flip side to this topic, every Friday on my Facebook page, I do "Terrible Music Friday". I have a twisted appreciation for truly wretched music. So far, I've done 5 entries:

November 5 - Not quite sure of the artist & title - Link

November 12 - Dolly Parton does "Stairway to Heaven" (kudos if you make it all the way through - I never have) - Link

November 19 - Mariah Carey making an attempt at "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" - Link

November 26 - The OSU Fight song, in honor of UM/OSU weekend - Link

December 3 - Carl Lewis singing "Break it Up"; I swear, you absolutely HAVE to watch the whole thing - Link

I've got enough entries to last well into January already picked out. image
