Talk about an esoteric theme for a collection. Do you particularly collect Armenian or near eastern coinage, or is this something you ran into?
I live in a large Armenian community here on the West Coast, but don't know any that are also coin collectors. An archaeologist with Medieval Near Eastern specialization might answer your question or perhaps an Armenologist.
I think the figure is Levon II. Their currency has been Drams for a long time, but not sure what else they might have had during that era, but penny would not be the right term.
Thanks for sharing this. It is an interesting piece. All I have is a complete set of modern Armenian coinage issued by the government. I think I will post a picture soon.
