In Seattle, WA we did not see a single flake of snow last year, but this year we have already had 6 inches. They say La Nina might make it an interesting winter around here.

Thing is, for all that mess, it wasn't really a problem. Yeah, some places you have to shovel your roof to keep it from caving in. But every other good ol boy with a pickup had a snow plow attachment. Even the country roads were nice and clear for the most part and we never really had bad service interruptions (though it does happen).
But just last week here in Western Washington we got maybe 4 inches that barely lasted two days. The schools, university, tons of offices, etc all closed down. Trash pickup was Tuesday for us.. they never came and still haven't. And driving... all the words I have for that get censored.
Here's a pic of my neighborhood from last week, just outside Tacoma, about an hour south of Seattle. You can tell I'm the only one with upstate NY experience on the block by the driveway
Not the greatest pic, but the mountains are looking pretty (and they really have been getting pounded there already - passes in the Cascades are already closed for the season)
My wantlist & references
We haven't received a flake this year, and you can have it all Hus, and NY.
We've totaled about 163" in the last three winters here vs. an average of about 32" per year.....so, we're due for NO SNOW this year.
I lived in England 10 years and saw next to no snow there. 2" at a crack at best.
Here's something kind of frosty:

We had a fair bit last year but we don't normally get that much. Its usually a novelty to have a white Christmas. I live in Scotland so being North of England we tend to get slightly more.
Nice pictures... do people drive better in the snow in the UK?
Thanks. I don't know about better but they tend to have to drive slightly slower.
Great pictures guys.

Cool, so I'm not alone then. In fact, I moved down from PA many years ago, too. I grew up knowing harsh winters and several feet of snow nearly every year, so the snow pics posted in this thread are a pleasant reminder of those days.

The better part of 1000 miles from where I am. I've actually been there in the summer, no snow then though.

Not quite, just a few months of poor sledding.
Lake Erie lake effect snow
I live about 13 miles north of the band of snow and have 1 1/2" of snow on the ground. My sister who lives in the middle of the band has 18" of snow on the ground.
My school district isn't in the snow band but we have many teachers who live down there. Overnight 40 teachers called in for substitutes. The New York Truway (I-90) is closed.
