Thoughts on 1966 Topps Baseball set build

I have been thinking about building this set raw, mainly because I have a couple hundred EX condition cards already and I like the set. What I'm finding though is that the high number and SP's appear to be extremely rare and there are quite a few of them. So, it looks like cards numbered 447-598 would be pricey even in raw condition. That's a lot of money for a hundred and fifty hard to find commons.
Any thoughts from anyone who has built or tried to build this set?
Thanks,
Mark

Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.
I built the set also...mostly graded. I found that you could buy nice psa 5/6 cards cheaper than comparable raw. For whatever reason the raw high numbers always got bid up pretty good. I bought about 25% of them graded and cracked them. Good luck as it is a very nice set.

I just looked, best deal on 1966 Gaylord Perry @ $50!
Good luck!

They were at times cheaper too.
