T3 Turkey Red question

I am referring to the 1911 T3 Turkey Red Cabinets. I've noticed that some have the Turkey Red Back and others have the Checklist back. Is one rarer or command more of a premium than the other? Thanks.

Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.

  • I believe the checklist is more rare, I'm seeing cards sell for approx 3x as much with that back compared to the other in the same grade.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be able to help yo ufurther.

    Hi jb

Not an expert - tho I'm working on the set - here's a nice link to the backs.

Years ago - to the best of my memory - the "ad" backs were commanding more 'attention' than they do today.

The "ad" back and one variation of the checklist backs command more attention but - again - not as much excitement as I remember years ago.

To me - this is one of the sweetest looking sets ever produced.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

Hi Stone! You jumped in as I was looking for some scans!

    I concur!

Good day, although some are harder to find with each different back, the pricing is close to the same. Unless you know a whale who needs a certain front back combo, i wouldn't go nuts over paying for either. The for baseball checklist backs can be found on subjects 1-75 and then checklist or advertising backs on numbers 77-126, (while the middle series boxers). It is thought that the first 75 cards were produced with checklist backs, then the second print run of the higher series was printed with checklist backs. Sometime later on in the print run, most likely closer to 1911 (as these were made in 1910 not 1911) they began printing the Advertisement back for the turkey red brand smokes. Much longer after that, both series could still be purchased, however there was a checklist back with NO OFFER, these command slightly higher value depending on player, etc. There are far more intricacies aside from these mentioned, however not much really too interesting or valuable if you just want to dabble in the set. The Turkey red backs always present better in my eyes, but having no number you have to sort alphabetically, or check a checklist back.

In my experience, there really isn't much of a price difference between the backs, except for perhaps the checklist/no offer back, as it seems slightly more difficult.

One interesting point is that certain cards seem to appear more often with a particular back, i.e., the Walter Johnson seems to appear more often with the ad back, while others appear far more often with the checklist back.

So really, unless as was mentioned earlier, you're just looking for a specific front/back combo, I wouldn't place a premium on any particular back.
