So, who's the new competitor on the block?

It seems that someone is chasing after slabbed Palestine Mandate in top grade, over on the Bay. Anyone here???

I assume you mean the 1927 5 Mils? I was hoping to bid on that one as well, but it quickly jumped out of the range of my wallet! image

It seems the Mandate set 1927 thru 1946 has gotten new interest and I have seen this trend over the past few years.

It has shown a steady increase and not just pop top examples - as a pop top today is possibly just another high grade date tommorrow....however regardless it seems that obviously more then just a few have discovered how tough these are in mint state grades (PCGS and NGC graded examples), and one realizes very quickly its not so simple to put that 59pc set together at all - and can easily take a decade or two.

They will learn that soon enough! Chasing the plastic though, IMHO is downright foolish since too few coins have actually made it to PCGS/NGC.

Unsure about it being totally foolish really, you need to note there have been very few 67's graded altogether in the entire series. This collector might be reaching for finest graded examples. For said winner to have gone that high ($800+ '27 5 Mil in MS67 (NGC) sold on Ebay 11/2010) there was at least one underbidder willing to pay pretty darn close money for that piece.image

Furthermore not many more will grade 67 (let alone higher). This series just doesn't come up in such grades. I know many sent in examples have come back bb'd from both services in the past decade. Reaching for a high grade set is a tremendous effort as you well know. Once you grade your little gems however.... image

Guys it ain't me - I learned the hard way that this is a task better left for the British Mandate specialists. I believe I know 2 on this forum/threadimage My guess is between the 2 of you the market has pretty much cleared. Good luck!

hehe I knew it was one of us image

Darn nice piece to be perfectly honest - its looks and I believe is a fabulous example for the grade!
I wanted it just to upgrade MY SAME GRADE.
I believe this one is nicer then my 64RB, it just started to go into foolish money (haha ok ok) so I backed out.

That's my esplaination and I'm sticking by itimage
