PSA Free Sub results question

Just had my grades for last year's CC membership pop (yeah, a bit slow to use that voucher) and it leaves me wondering....

I know it's probably been asked to death, but it sure seems to me like the grades on my free sub always are worse than my paid subs. Out of 15 subs, 5 are a grade lower than expected and only 1 pleasant surprise. My last two 50 card subs - I batted at least 80%.

Not suggesting any shenanigans, but any chance these go to the "train the grader" class or something?? image

It's very unlikely that the freebies are treated any differently than other cards. Keep in mind that those "freebies" actually cost you a pretty penny in membership fees.

If it's true that the free-sub results are generally worse than the others, it could be because we--as submitters--pay less attention to details when preparing such a sub. We generally appreciate more those things which we must work hard for or pay for. The psychology of the "freebie" may cause us to subconsciously overlook that which we would otherwise consider when we are fully aware that we are paying for the sub.

I actually took items from the stack that was set aside for my Nov CC Special, so I hope that wasn't the case. However, I did lean toward low pop items, so maybe that's all that is at play here.

    Just grousing mostly.

  • I felt that way after my last freebie 15 card sub, but once I really looked much closer at the cards they were pretty accurate. As far as time for grading, they have always been very fast for any of mine. Take care.

For me the freebies and the ones I've paid for have been pretty much the same, with minimal dissapointment. When I was disappointed I took a closer look and saw what I missed. I think the poster that mentioned not pay attention as much for the freebies may be right in my case.

I posted my voucher poppage last week, and sent in the cards I did because in the past, my voucher poppage got better grades than I expected. Again, that was the case. The two 10s I rec'd were, um, pretty valuable 10s....
