Joe Medwick Autograph - opinions needed

The opinion I need is not whether or not this is authentic. I know both of these are. I was wondering if you guys think I should leave this signed newspaper clipping alone or should I do something similar to what I did with the Medwick cut signature at the bottom? I plan on getting the one on the 4 x 6 index card slabbed. The newspaper is approximately 5.5" x 7.5".

I am leaning towards leaving it alone and getting it slabbed like it is. They do have holders for something 5.5" x 7.5" don't they?

Here they are.

I would leave it as it is. It looks a lot better that way. I don't like the cut signature as much. At least with the newspaper you have a story to go with it.

I would try and get a custom card made using a classic design like a Delong or Tattoo Orbit. To me that makes the auto more fun to look at.

I don't know how to do that.

I would say to leave the newspaper piece as is. I like seeing the signature with the story of the day. Here's a similar vintage Paul Waner signed newspaper article which I own...

There's a few guys on here that make custom cuts for people.

They are pretty sharp too, but they cost more than the autographs are worth.

  • I wouldn't do anything to the clipping that is a great and would be sad cut up. I had something slabbed pretty close that size of Charles Barkley. They slab 5x7 stuff all the time.

Id frame it with a vintage piece, ie a photo or card from his playing days.

IMO dont mix modern with vintage

You can easily buy his "rookie" card for under $50

The 1934 R313A Wheaties cards are out there and often found for $25-$50
(the set was available through a Wheaties offer and is aka "Gold Medal Foods Inc.", or incorrectly "Gold Medal Flour")

PS the 1933 Worch card is his oldest card, but it is very rare and will be extremely tough to locate and cost $500-$1000 now if you do
  • Add my name to the list of posters who say to leave the sig with the newspaper story. Maybe frame the whole thing?
