Doc Gooden honored by the Winning Beyond Winning Foundation

Despite his trials and tribulations, Gooden is one of the most revered and appreciated sports figures in New York history. He was honored this past week by the Winning Beyond Winning Foundation.     Yes, a loved player! Its funny, we were just discussing him on the board a few days ago when I purchased his rookie card.

    His card prices are close to those of HOFers. They are not priced particularly cheap as far as 80s cards go. Its all because people simply like him.

  • I remember when Gooden his his baseball "low" in the late 90's, I picked up his 84 Topps Traded in NR/MT condition for $.50. Even though it doesn't book for alot now, I was geeked to be able to own a card that I routinely saw sell for over $100.

    Gooden received the most attention throughout the night and there were many established MLB players there.
