Strength of the Card Market - 1972 Graded FB Set

Several posts have puzzled me lately. I don't like Best offer or BIN. However, seems that my bidding has not bee fruitful lately. Missed a deal I want back because I nickled and dimed somebody. However, recently someone sold an entire 1972 FB graded set on Ebay. Total value without shipping was $15,902. Think that is pretty much fair value or down. This would rank in the top 5 all time. so here are the results.
Consists of 23 PSA 10's - 249 PSA 9's - two PSA 8.5's - 77 PSA 8's.
Dont remember the last graded 72 set that sold, but this seems like a pretty good price. 45 per card. Populations should go up over time. My favorite set. I picked up one horribly off center card Joe Jones PSA 8 #46 for 10.77 and one of the 8.5's number 73 Herb Allison for 14.27. And a card i did not need as I already had it in PSA 8 257 Don Horn IA for 4.29. The 10's seemed to sell well as did the high class 9's
Share your thoughts on the card market. I too agree things should be cheaper given the economy. While the stimulus has kept us out of depression, and QE2 has made equities somewhat more attractive. This sale just shows that the economy is better than we probably perceive - or that those who collect still have disposable income. I am spending on cards lately so I either feel better about something or I am just fighting boredom
