Looking for info on a 1955 US Treasury Award token

Has anyone heard of a US Treasury Award? It's about the size of a half dollar, heavy, silver in color, engraved with "US Savings Bonds Program - For Patriotic Services " It has an image of a colonial patriot on one side. The name of the recipient and date engraved on it as well.

Any info on such a piece? History? Reason for presentation? Composition? Value?

Thanks!

Are you sure of the date? I thought those were World War Two awards for selling bonds to help finance the war.
    I think they are sterling.

I haven't seen the piece but the person who called confirmed that it was 1955 a couple of times.

Sterling, as determined by specific gravity.
It went in the last silver melt!

That's a neat token. I believe they had some for WWI too. Should we have one to help finance the current efforts?

I have one of those around somewhere, mine was purchased on eBay and is not engraved, I think I paid less than $10 for it.

Thank you for the help. I got called away yesterday soon after posting, so sorry for the delay in responding, but appreciate the info! image

The one I was called about doesn't have "War Finance" on it, instead has "US Savings Bonds Program". Was anything issued during the Eisenhower administration for Savings Bonds?
