1981 MSA test disc

Can anyone confirm these were actually issued in 1981 and just not recently stamped on the back of the blank backed issue seems an odd verbiage to actually say test issue.

1975 Michael Schechter Associates Test Discs
Prior to rolling out its 70-disc set in 1976, Michael Schecter Associates issued this sample set of discs the previous year. Slightly larger,
at 3-9/16" diameter, than the ’76 issues, the ’75 sample discs share a similar format. Fronts have a black-and-white player photo from which uniform logo details have been removed due to lack of licensing by Major League Baseball. Backs are blank. The Seaver and Bench discs are considerably scarcer than the other four players in the set.

1976 Michael Schechter Associates Discs
Following its test issue of 1975, Michael Schechter Associates ran out its baseball player disc issues on a large scale in 1976. While most were sold with specific sponsor advertising on back, they were also made available with blank backs. The discs are 3-3/8" diameter with a black-and-white player portrait photo in the center of the baseball design. A line of red stars is above, while the left and right panels feature
one of several bright colors. Produced by MSA under license from the Major League Players Association, the player photos have had uniform and cap logos removed. The unnumbered discs are presented in alphabetical order.

Just curious- Do you see small stubs on the outside of the disc that would indicate it was perforated in any way or are the edges smooth?

discs out there. I've got numerous MSA discs, all the backs and
variations (I think) and have never seen that back.
If I had to bet, I'd say it is not real.
the letters MSA on the right only appear (I think) on the cup lids.
Also, Rose went to Philly after the 78 season.
I don't know, they could be legit. Who knows, my Standard
Catolog doesn't list them, but it's an old one.

<< <i>well since those are my scans i will comment! they are the actual size of the 81 sunbeam blank discs. the are larger than the wiffle and burger chef discs. this was the first time msa made a disc that size and made some promo discs to sell to employees from what i was told, true or false i dont know. the print stamp is old for sure, not something somebody made up recently. psa authenticated the rose disc a psa 8. i have 2 sets of these. thats about all i know. >>
So you were told that MSA made these discs to SELL to employees? The back of the disc is stamped "free sample". Why would they sell free samples? Odd...
