This is why I feel it is. Its very smooth for an OPC and it has this bump on one of its edges.

Hard to tell, but 79 OPC wasn't always rough cut. It's not like 73-74 opc, where the vending cards had perfect cuts, but there are many smooth-ish perfectly legit 79 opc cards out there.

As for the bump along the border, it is not out of character for opc cuts at the time.

I would say don't sweat it. Enjoy the card.

  • If you think it could be trimmed and it's already graded, what's the problem. If it is trimmed, too late. If it isn't, so what.

    Sportstheory
If I buy a card graded already and then feel that the grader missed something as big as the card being trimmed Ill worry about it.
Your thoughts are simple. But there are cards in cases that are trimmed and I dont want them in my collection. So sportstheory would you like to buy this card and not worry about it, Its yours for vcp then.

It couldnt happen to a bigger POS scammer than you. Knowing you though, you'll just wait for someone dumber than you to be born and sell it to them. Could be a long wait though.

Nickie I know you hold a grudge but really

    Edit.

Well, if it is peace of mind you want, why not crack it out, send it in and if it comes back holdered, odds are it is good. If it comes back EOT, then your suspicion is legit.
  • Could also be a swap out. PSA slabs are really vulnerable to it. High Dollar cards in PSA slabs = suspect

case is clean. Im going to send it in
  • Send it in for a review , looks like it might bump to a 8.5 unless the holder has been tampered with.

not all OPC are rough cut as they actually sharpened or replaced the blades about once a year.

the card looks good and if I had the extra money, I would buy it.

    AGREED!

    Very strange thread.

I would definitely NOTcrack it out. Just send it in under the "card review" special. PSA will usually compensate you if, indeed it is trimmed. If they feel the card isn't trimmed then you might even get a .5 bump.
  • I'd say not fake... PSA goes over the top not grade high dollar cards they think might be EOT.

Your best bet is to send it in for review.

You may get the .5 bump as mentioned, or it could come back EOT, or you'll just get it back.

Since the card is already in the holder, if PSA says it is EOT then I think they need to reimburse you according to SMR -- can someone verify this?

Just so you know, I have had many '79 OPCs with that little bump you have shown.

Good luck, let us know what happens.

    Exactly.

This case doesn't appear to have "frosting" on the edges. But why should anyone collecting / investing in high dollar cards in PSA slabs do so when they're so easy for some to crack-and-reseal?

The growing concern of "Does this card's holder have frosted edges?"; "Are they a little frosted?"; "Are they not frosted?" is only gaining traction. PSA holder design needs to be changed to something Beckett-like. Once one buys a flimsy tampered-with PSA case and knows it, their confidence wanes. Mine did.

This will continue to hurt demand for PSA cards going forward. Many should consider selling some of their expensive cards in PSA slabs sooner - or you'll likely be selling it for less later. Tell PSA why you're doing it. I did.

It's going to take more people like me before PSA will act on this significant problem.

Professional card authentication does not eliminate the buyer's responsibility to educate themselves before making the purchase.

Are Beckett slabs harder to crack open? Sure. But the buyer still has to know what they are buying. That Beckett card could be sheet cut for all we know.

Personally I hate Beckett holders because they are way too bulky and they allow sheet cut cards in those holders. If a PSA holder has been tampered with, it is clearly evident.
  • Some of you guys talk like it's easy to crack cards out of PSA holders... I've never been able to do so without seriously killing the holder and I crack a lot of cards out to get them auto'ed. If this was such an issue I think PSA would take action.

Personally I like PSA holders a lot more compared to the becket bricks.

I've had some slabs come back not completely sealed and were opened back up with very little frost showing (but still, frost showing).
