Thanks for pointing this out. I don't collect high end baseball cards but is has been very interesting to go through the realized prices and compare them to the SMR.
There are plenty of cards selling for 25% below book and plenty others selling for 1.5 to 2.5 times book. I do realize the 52 Topps have back variations and I don't know which are better then others relative to the player; it was just interesting to see the results.
My take from this is that if you are buying cards from popular sets where there are big set collectors, the best cards to find for the long term are the cards that are the hardest in high grade regardless of importance to the ungraded set.
I snagged this Muhammad Ali signed boxing glove at a decent price. They are jacking me for $24.11 though for shipping. Ebay sellers ain't got nothing on SCP's shipping charges.
I don't know if the $24.95 is a real invoice. They stated in the email that got sent late Sunday morning when the auction ended that invoices wouldn't be sent until Monday or Tuesday. I think $24.95 is a default. I would wait until you get a revised invoice......
Nevermind...I reread the email and see they are sending them out tonight. My shipping charge is $28 for 8 PSA graded cards. I am guessing it is that high due to the dollar amount, and the fact that they will send them Registered due to the high amount....
My invoice had $68 in shipping. No way in hell I was paying that shipping, but I could see it was because they were using UPS insurance rates.
I told them that I wanted things shipped via USPS Registered, and that their rate was $25.25, so accounting for the packaging/packing costs, I wasn't willing to pay more than $30.
Lo and behold: new invoice comes with $28.25 shipping. I'm glad they were flexible on who shipped the package. But they're no different from any of the other auction houses. I don't bid on a ton of stuff at these auction house sites, but EVERY single time I do the shipping is outrageously high on the first invoice.

<< <i>I picked up this lot of T202's, which was 10 PSA 5's. Good price I thought, considering the PSA 5's typically go for at least $100 each... >>
Very nice pick up even without the HOFer included.
<< <i>no luck on my end, very insane prices >>
Jesus loves the insane as well as the lepers and the adulterers.
