Weekend in NYC

Heading to NYC for a bachelor party this weekend. Yes, I am too old for one of those. Hitting the Giants/Cowboys Sunday. What else do you recommend? Staying lower east side. Last time I was there saw some random sports stuff like an apartment building where Babe Ruth lived. Good sports spots? Good food/drink spots?

well for the foodie thing.. chinatown 17 mott street, upper or lower and katz's deli down there as well. take a walk and see the beginnings of the new trade center....perhaps times square and a broadway show and dress real warm for the game.

K-Town is where the party's at. I don't remember which street, but somewhere in the 30's..The entire street is Korean restaurants and most have karaoke bars upstairs. The karaoke may sound like a joke, but its where many 25-40 yrs old professionals who work in midtown hang out. Its not at all what you'd expect and I promise you won't be disappointed. You will very likely be the only tourist there.

I went to NYC for my bachelor party earlier this year. We did pub crawls the first two nights, and the first MLS game in Red Bull Arena the third night, after which we went to Zeppelin Hall (a beer garden in Jersey). I have had very little to drink since that weekend.

    Had an absolute blast, though.

Every time I'm in NYC, I go to La Mela, an Italian restaurant in Little Italy, 167 Mulberry. After I eat myself sick there, I waddle around the corner to Ferrara bakery and get a cannoli or eight.

Have a good time. You'll have to work hard to not have fun.

McSorley's in the East Village. Feels like you're back in Babe Ruth's dads bar.
Nice display of T218's at the far left end of the bar, where the beer taps are.
Was there last week, a must stop in NYC.

Have not been to McSorleys in about 5 years. Used to go a few times each year. I remember back in the early 80s that there was only ONE restroom ... Ladies, if you must go come join us in here! LOL In the mid/late 80s they added a ladies room.

    Abso-friggin-lutely.

    Here's behind the bar:

And the front of the joint::

That's one of my idiot groomsmen in the front.

I'll NOT post the picture of him peeing on the NYPD car in the West Village.

    Two notes about McSorley's:
    A. There are two beers. Dark and light. Those are your options. For every beer you order, they give you two small mugs. Both beers are good, both are inexpensive.
    B. It's gonna be crowded. Not crowded with idiots, like a "club" would be, but just shoulder to shoulder.

    Damn.

    I'm ready to go back!

Good idea. You can always do what I did as a hick 17 year old on his first day in the big city, and actually walk UP the ramp instead of taking the elevator and walking down.

Disagree with La Mela. Agree 1000% with Ferrara's.

A few alternates to La Mela within walking distance of it are Joey Paesano's (136 Mulberry), Pellegrino's (138 Mulberry), and Il Cortile (125 Mulberry).

    Mangia.

Out of curiosity, what don't you like about La Mela?

I got a recommendation the first time I visited, and liked it enough to not try something else.

    I'm always open to suggestions!

The food was fine, but when I go out to dinner I like to sit with only the people I came there with. That's just my opinion as a local, and tourists may actually find that part of the experience (sitting family style) to be a plus.

If I were from out of town I'd definitely want to sit and enjoy a meal with me. image

Look for Tommy The Nose to seat you on Mulberry. I was always amazed how many people had 'The' for their middle name image

I first went to NYC in late 2006 and loved it. Went up there in 2007 for school. Came back to Virginia in 2008 to finish up here, and recently put a few places in the city on my list of law schools to apply to for fall 2012.

Two to three times a year I go up and visit -- mainly just to get away and reflect, sit on rocks in Central Park, write, and visit museums. Went there for my 29th birthday in September and, as always, had a great time.

I usually go alone. Since I don't take anybody with me I stay at the Gershwin Hostel... but since my girlfriend has never been, I brought her along this time and upgraded to the Palace (across from St. Patrick's Cathedral) and it was the nicest hotel in the city I've ever stayed at -- spoiled her too much on her first trip, lol.

definitely go to Roberts steakhouse. The food was great and the "help" was the best wait staff i've ever had. They used to have a deal for large parties. It was 250 for dinner and 2.5 hours of open bar. It is a high quality steakhouse (prime dry aged ect.. ) as good as any other in city except Lugers maybe. certainly better than i expected given the scene. It sounds $$$ but if you were to go to dinner it would be over 100 person and then atleast a 20 cover to get into the strippy and drinks are 12-20 bucks. so the 250 all in is a gem deal. I haven't lived in the city in few years. But if you are looking for a young crowd that will be fairly easy to drunk broad go to any of the bars on 2nd ave in the low 50's (sutton place ect... ). If you are looking for a higher end evening go to the gansavort roof top for few drinks then a get a table at one of the lounges in the area. I used to go to Lotus alot. No idea if its still good or even open. It used to be full of models or wanna be models. Its tough to get into most of the lounges with a group of guys though.

Mullins I stayed at the Gurshwin in 1996 for a month when I was modeling in NY. No AC and my brother and I and two complete strangers. Was a wild time to say the least.

Having a great time. Haven't had free time as I thought I would. All group activities. Went to Keens Steakhouse last night after a couple drinks at Gallaway Hooker. Both were nice spots. Keens was very old school. Hit Saphire after and I think I am definitly too old for s-clubs. Nice run past the Empire State Building this morning. About to head to lunch and then head over for tailgate! Got decent tickets for face value! image

P.S. Thanks for the great weather New York! I feared it would be freezing but not much cooler than back home.

Haha, yes, bunking with strangers at the Gershwin is always an adventure image I don't usually mind hostels as most of the time I'm out in the city.

Lots of upcoming models and actors come through that place...in fact, my first stay there was while I auditioned for acting schools.
