Weekend in NYC

Heading to NYC for a bachelor party this weekend. Yes, I am too old for one of those. Hitting the Giants/Cowboys Sunday. What else do you recommend? Staying lower east side. Last time I was there saw some random sports stuff like an apartment building where Babe Ruth lived. Good sports spots? Good food/drink spots?

Always buying Bobby Cox inserts. PM me.
Had an absolute blast, though.
Every time I'm in NYC, I go to La Mela, an Italian restaurant in Little Italy, 167 Mulberry. After I eat myself sick there, I waddle around the corner to Ferrara bakery and get a cannoli or eight.
Have a good time. You'll have to work hard to not have fun.

<< <i>K-Town is where the party's at. I don't remember which street, but somewhere in the 30's..The entire street is Korean restaurants and most have karaoke bars upstairs. The karaoke may sound like a joke, but its where many 25-40 yrs old professionals who work in midtown hang out. Its not at all what you'd expect and I promise you won't be disappointed. You will very likely be the only tourist there. >>
west 32nd..makes sure to order the crash helmet sized bowl of soup!
Nice display of T218's at the far left end of the bar, where the beer taps are.
Was there last week, a must stop in NYC.
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
<< <i>McSorley's in the East Village. Feels like you're back in Babe Ruth's dads bar.

Have not been to McSorleys in about 5 years. Used to go a few times each year. I remember back in the early 80s that there was only ONE restroom ... Ladies, if you must go come join us in here! LOL In the mid/late 80s they added a ladies room.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Abso-friggin-lutely.
Here's behind the bar:
And the front of the joint::
That's one of my idiot groomsmen in the front.
I'll NOT post the picture of him peeing on the NYPD car in the West Village.
Two notes about McSorley's:
A. There are two beers. Dark and light. Those are your options. For every beer you order, they give you two small mugs. Both beers are good, both are inexpensive.
B. It's gonna be crowded. Not crowded with idiots, like a "club" would be, but just shoulder to shoulder.
Damn.
I'm ready to go back!

<< <i>Anytime I'm in NYC, I always check out the Guggenheim. >>
Good idea. You can always do what I did as a hick 17 year old on his first day in the big city, and actually walk UP the ramp instead of taking the elevator and walking down.
<< <i>Those must be damn good fries >>
You will pay anything for food after you buy the Hash.

It is family style, though. Bring lots of friends.

Disagree with La Mela. Agree 1000% with Ferrara's.
A few alternates to La Mela within walking distance of it are Joey Paesano's (136 Mulberry), Pellegrino's (138 Mulberry), and Il Cortile (125 Mulberry).
Mangia.

Out of curiosity, what don't you like about La Mela?
I got a recommendation the first time I visited, and liked it enough to not try something else.
I'm always open to suggestions!

The food was fine, but when I go out to dinner I like to sit with only the people I came there with. That's just my opinion as a local, and tourists may actually find that part of the experience (sitting family style) to be a plus.
If I were from out of town I'd definitely want to sit and enjoy a meal with me.

Look for Tommy The Nose to seat you on Mulberry. I was always amazed how many people had 'The' for their middle name

Granted, we always have at least my family (5) plus another family when we go.
Two to three times a year I go up and visit -- mainly just to get away and reflect, sit on rocks in Central Park, write, and visit museums. Went there for my 29th birthday in September and, as always, had a great time.
I usually go alone. Since I don't take anybody with me I stay at the Gershwin Hostel... but since my girlfriend has never been, I brought her along this time and upgraded to the Palace (across from St. Patrick's Cathedral) and it was the nicest hotel in the city I've ever stayed at -- spoiled her too much on her first trip, lol.

Well..... I uh......... band camp.......... my heads spinning guys, sorry I got nothing for the moment. But archived for Nick.

Haha, yes, bunking with strangers at the Gershwin is always an adventure
Lots of upcoming models and actors come through that place...in fact, my first stay there was while I auditioned for acting schools.
