All the stuff that I'm debating selling is all common date XF - Low MS $1 and $2.50 gold because there numismatic value is much higher then their melt value. I have some other denominations but their melt value is much much closer to their numis value so their not much different then bullion. As gold rises I don't see the numis value of the $1 and $2.50 rising at the same percentage as the gold spot price, but the other denominations have to be worth atleast their melt value. Right now I'm looking at about a numismatic value on the $1 and $2.50's of about 2-3 times their melt value. There all just investments for me so I don't have any personal attachment to them and if I did sell them I would turn around and buy gold or silver bullion, most likely silver. I am pretty comfortable with my position right now but this idea of trading these high premium pieces for bullion is on my mind.
Do you guys think I should keep these pieces? DO you think their value will increase at the same percentage as the gold spot price or lag due to economic conditions?
