Mike Tyson Panini rookie card??

I have been looking for a Mike Tyson (85/86) Panini rookie card for some time now. There was one that popped up on eBay and I jumped on it. My question is, is this his first card produced? It was listed as being a 1987 Panini. However, to my knowledge, his 87 Panini card is actually the full body image with a second athlete on the back of the card. I believe the one I purchased is either an 85/86 Panini. Can someone please verify for me that this is indeed his first card produced.

John - Not sure if that his first one, but I believe that is an '86 Panini as is the one you mentioned where he is standing with a full body shot.

that is his first panini card. I have the same one and its slabbed as 85 panini. I bought it raw and i believe it was listed as 87 too. I'm not sure if psa has it wrong or not though. Looks like its in pretty good condition. I must have missed this one on ebay. I got mine for 15 bucks but only got a psa 4 when i subbed it. it has a small crease. I've been looking to upgrade. The last time i saw one on ebay i ended up getting into a bidding war dpeck and bowed out around 80 bucks.

The back of those cards would lead me to believe that they were made very late in 1986 or in 1987. The back mentions that he was WBC Heavyweight Champion and he did not win that until November 22, 2006, giving a very small window if those cards were truly produced in 1986. Additionally, it mentions Tyson being 20 years old and he didn't turn 20 until 1986 either.

I have an 87 Panini of Holyfield which is the same issue as the other Tyson I am referring to. I believe this to be the second card that Panini produced of Tyson. The reason I am curious is because I would like to get the card signed at some point in the future. I just want to make sure I am getting his first issued card signed. Was the Tyson I bough produced before the 87 full body image?

i'm assuming it was one that went for 40 bucks under completed auction on ebay. This is def the card that psa slabs as 1985. I think psa has it wrong for some reason. Just sub it as card 153 1985 panini and that is how they will slab it. i'm pretty sure there really isn't a tyson card that was produced in 85. I really like the question of sport card. I don't understand why psa will grad a match book but not that card.

I have that 86 Question of Sport and the entire set.

The card mentioned is the Panini sticker card.

This will be a huge card. I have five and I feel very confident this will be a big time winner longer term.

Here's another Tyson that PSA purports to be from 1986.

That is the foil and the best one. I made a big mistake not buying a very nice one about a month ago. Put it on the watch list and a few days later poof!!

Not sure about the accuracy of this site, but it lists many boxing issues and has pictures of key cards like the Tyson cards.

I cleared him out on Tyson cards a while ago. I bought every one he had.

this what is in the pop report. The one they list as the 86 card is the full body one. I think that card is actually from 88. I've asked customer service about grading the question of sport... and they just said they don't grade that issue.

Multi-Sport Cards 1985 Panini Supersport Italian 153 Mike Tyson
Multi-Sport Cards 1986 Panini Supersport Italian 160 Mike Tyson

    Dpeck,
Unless PSA decides to grade that card.. i don't think it will ever become very desirable. The registry really drives a lot of prices. Any card psa doesn't grade, many collectors dismiss it as a knock off or an unlicensed card.

Mke Tyson Question of Sport BGS 9.5

Man these have come down in price. I think the market realized this was his second year card. I just picked this up for $50.

There were a few of these that hit early that sold for $250.

Wow - that 9.5 QOS card was a steal! It's actually an '86 card though. Question of Sport put out a very similar looking set in '87, but the cards are a little smaller and the back is a different color. The Tyson you bought, D - is an '86 card. For some reason, SGC is the only company that gets this card right. I wish PSA would slab the Panini's correctly.

First off, there is no 1985 Panini Tyson card. In '86 Panini produced an Italian and UK card for Tyson (it's a shoulder-up shot). I believe the 1986 foil card (that Dpeck mentioned) was only released in the UK set. It is very tough to get, but in my opinion - is a less attractive rookie card than his individual card.

In 1987 Panini put out the Tyson card that's waist-up shot of him. It's a shame this wasn't released for him in '86, because it's the coolest looking of all his Panini that I've seen (classic Tyson).

PSA was mislabeling these at first. I subbed some cards when I opened the 86 Panini box and those were the first one's properly marked. Here is an example of one labeled 85, 86 and the second Panini sticker.

The foil card is indeed from the UK version and is not in the Italian version.
