57' Mantle -I think it's trimmed...

Recent pickup that I suspect may be trimmed at the top. Opinions?

    scan it up close.
  • Not to sure about it being trimmed. The bottom looks slightly beyond 50 on the centering which seems to balance out with a shorter top border. One way to find out, send that baby in.

Don't have a scanner available, but will try to get a better zoom shot if I can. Looking at the top/bottom edges with a loupe, the top edge is much rougher/almost jagged cut than the bottom and also compared to another 57' Mantle I have. I moved it into a recessed screwdown for storage as I usually do and can see an increasing gap at the top getting slightly bigger from left to right. The more I examine it, the more convinced I am that it is trimmed...too bad.

Don't be fooled by short '57s, many of them were factory cut short. My Aaron is a bit short from that year and got graded.

Decided to pull my scanner out of the closet...Hopefully these are better. I guess I'm more worried about how it seems to get shorter from left to right, and the difference in the edge cut on the top is concerning as well.

  • I'm not going to bug you anymore but I still think it's OK. I think there's a slight tilt to the picture (notice how the bottom of the photo goes up from right to left). If you are still convinced it's trimmed I'll take off your hands for $50, how's that? image

    It has 3 rounded corners......................

Nice card, looks like a pretty decent 5 IMO.

Agree with Steve, 3 rounded corners should mean not trimmed. I could even see it as a 6.

I don't think it's trimmed. It looks like a solid 5 to me.

Nice centering, nice picture, very clean looking card with the bottom right with some wear. This is the perfect 5.5

Exactly what half grades were supposed to be for.

Agree with Mickey, I could see it in 5.5 holder, and on a great day a 6 holder too for that matter.

Count yourself lucky. I got the authentic hammer on what otherwise appeared to be better than ex-mt Williams and Mantle. WTF? Only two of the more pricey cards in the set.

It looks OK to me also...

    Good luck...image
