Sparky you were a joy to watch manage the Reds and My Tigers that you became my hero.I have carried your 1960 Topps card in my wallet for several years for good luck and plan to carry it as long as I live. Thanks for the great memories my Man.

Speechless. Words can't express growing up as a kid in the late 60's early 70's.. with my gang of neighborhood kids trying to emulate the Big Red Machine. I wanted to be Dave Concepcion most of the time. I can see John Wooden greeting him right now.
WOW, Sad news. I had the privilege of meeting Sparky Anderson at a game in Boston in 1988. My high school girl friends mom was his travel agent and she sent up the meeting for me. What a great man. He'll be missed.

Growing up in Dayton in the mid-seventies, Sparky was royality. We never did forgive Dick Wagner for firing him. Behind trading Frank Robinson, that was the dumbest move ever by the Reds organization. Think about it, He won two world series, won four NL pennants and five divisons in eight years. Not to shabby. Not only that, think about the ego's he had to manage; Rose, Bench and Morgan. I don't think Sparky ever got over that. He loved the Reds and Cincinnati.
