Found some of my old cards...what to do

Hi all. I never was on this forum as I spend all my time in the coins forum. Anyway, I found some of my old baseball cards at my Mom's house and was wondering what I should do with them as i have no interest in them. Is eBay the best place to sell? I don't know of any dealers in my area, so should I get a price guide? What's the best one?
I have 118 cards I think. 65 are regular cards.
7 look like photo's with a signature and funny cut borders 1 to 33 cards and 46 look like cards for a game? 1 to 33 with "ground out" "fly out" "line out" "pop out" " walk" "single" "error" etc. Are these cards or just something I saved for who knows what when I was younger?
By the way, all the cards have been played with and are not in new condition and are from the late 60's and early 70's.
Are these just trash because they are played with or is there still a market in this condition?
Thanks for any advice.

always looking for 1969 graded basketball
  • Post a few pics. Cards can be identified easily that way. Once identified, eBay can get you a value on them. The BST board would save you the fees if anything is worth selling.
The best pitch to start a hitter off with is always strike one.
  • The smaller rounded corner cards are from the 1968 Topps Game. The Mantle being the highest value, but nothing to get too excited about.

You may want to post scans here for better advice from others.

They are either worth two in the bush or one in the hand, not sure which.

Those are called Deckles. They were produced in 2 years I think and again the stars are worth a little.

edited to add: I should mention that I was speaking of the 69's, if they are 74's they are worth substantially more.

    being a test issue.

    Good for you.

They are worth scanning, condition will determine how much cash value they have.
  • MULLINS5MULLINS5 Posts: 4,517 ✭✭✭
You could always go to eBay, type in for instance "griffin 703" and look at the ones currently for sale and the ones which have ended through advance search -- then make a decision on what to do with them.

The Mickey Mantle #280 is from the 1968 Topps set. Id like to see a scan of that.

    Vetter

You might want to post the Mantle by itself.

Cards appear in decent enough collector grade shape.

    Good luck.

Trimmed? Are you saying these were cut in some way? I don't think so, these were mine from day 1 and although played with I never cut any of them. They are all the same size.

Thanks for the insight. I guess I'll just toss them as I have no intrest in Baseball cards, just coins and my daughter doesn't like Baseball at all.

I'm sure a board member would take them off your hands rather than throw them away.

I'm still interested in them - condition doesn't matter to me like it does to others

  • I'd just put them all in one big lot on ebay. Would figure you should get at least $25, and probably closer to $50. Just as with the coins, the condition of the cards is critical to the value and desirability.
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
Yes a rounded mantle is trimmed.

Geez I wonder who you are?

    Says he's throwing them away.

I'm also showing him some completed auctions via pm so he can at the very least know that these cards aren't worthless.

Yeah, I saw where he says he will throw them out, just really wondering if he would be willing to sell it before it gets the can.

I agree, the lot is not worthless. I don't think he should throw them out -- but I've thrown away a lot of nice cards...so I know how that goes.
  • Downtown1974Downtown1974 Posts: 6,690 ✭✭✭✭✭
Vetter, Throwing them out would be foolish. It would be like buying a gallon of milk with 90% silver because you dont feel like breaking a 20. image

I'm at work right now on break is this will be quick. I am not Chuck! I don't know Chuck. This post was my 1st on this forum and I must say from my 1st impression I'm glad I collect coins and not cards. I'll answer all my PM's when I get home.

The Mantle even in low grade is sellable for $20 or so I believe. The rest will sell, might not get a lot, but the interest in those cards are there, so you will get something
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,910 ✭✭✭✭✭
You throw away 1990 Fleer not older baseball cards.

Please for the love of the hobby don't let these hit a waste basket. There is surely someone who wants them.

I realize there is not comparison to the Honus Wagner card, but condition like that card sometimes is not important to the collector.

I Mickey Mantle card is a Mickey Mantle no matter what the condition.

I am sure someone will either buy them of at least pay for shipping to recieve them.

    I hope you read this.
  • Tony, I don't think the Chuck comment was directed at you.

Do not throw away the cards. Most appear to be star and superstar players, and they have some value even in lower condition.

I would recommend creating a thread on the Vintage Sportscard Trading board with decent-sized front and back pictures of each card, and then ask for best offers.
