1953 Stahl Meyer high grade question....

I have a HIGH GRADE (PSA 7) 1953 Stahl Meyer common. As everyone knows, this is a very valuable, but thinly traded issue. If you were me, would you sell the card on Ebay or consign it to one of the big Auction Houses?? Any advice is appreciated....

I'd consign it to one of the big auction houses. Nice item.

Ebay would not generate the right kind of interest. Auction house would be the way to go
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

The Whitey Lockman is very common in high grade. It's unlikely to sell for more than 300-400 any way it's sold and consigning it to a major auction house will be the easiest way for you to actually lose money selling it. Best to list on Ebay at price that makes you money and wait.

I appreciate all the advice.....I am laughing at the irony in that a card that is one of only 6 (2 7's and 4 8's) is considered "common" in high grade. We are still talking about only 6 cards graded 7 and above! But I totally understand your point.......you mean it is common compared to the other cards in the set......thanks for all the advice!

Here's an interesting story about your card. http://www.robertedwardauctions.com/auction/2008/1673.html

Marty has an SGC88-8 on his site for $950 and B&E also has a 88-8 listed on Ebay for $1175. In an auction for a PSA 7 it will be unlikely to find two bidders who know nothing at all about Stahl Meyers going at it over your card.

Cool story!! Thanks for sharing.....I wonder what happened to all those cards?? The pop report sure hasn't gone up much....

It would depend what I had into the card.

If I had little or no investment in it I'd ebay(BIN) it at a price that would surely move it and still make me some decent dough.

I'd first try to sell it privately to someone building that set.

You could also straight auction it starting at a price that you are comfortable with.

Again, it all depends what I had into it.

    Good for you.

Agreed. BIN only on something out of the ordinary.
