Cards at Value City department stores

I remember back in 1995 going into a local Value City store and being able to buy various wax boxes from the years 1991 to 1994 for $3 to $4 each. They had pallets of each box they were selling. I haven't been in one of those stores in well over 10 years. Does anyone know if they continued to offer cards over the years or if they still do?

  • I have had dreams that I went into Toys 'R Us and they sold me all their left over 1975 wax boxes for face value.
  • Local Value City closed up shop couple years ago, had only been in it a couple times and do not recall seeing cards.

Muggs ... I think ALL of us have had that dream. However, since I am older than you, it was usually cards from the mid to late 60s in my dream! LOL

When I lived in MI, the Value City in Livonia had about 20 boxes of the 1997 Masters Golf with Tiger Woods for $5 each. I was so smart that I didn't buy any of them because who would want to collect that new guy named Tiger Woods.

In the cleveland area the Value City stores have all closed as far as I know....they used to have cards but the last time I was there it was a bunch of Parkhurst hockey, Bowman hockey and other type boxes that no one was buying even at the lower prices.....We still have Value City furniture stores but none of the others.
  • Big Lots used to get those boxes as well. It seemed they had a non ending
supply of 1990 Donruss for a while for about $3 or so a box.

That was about 8-10 years ago.

Looks like they filed for bankruptcy and closed all stores effective December 2008. The Value City Furniture stores are still out there.

I remember going to the Value City in Lansing, MI and buying about 8 boxes of 1993 Donruss at $3 each trying to get an Elite card. I did not get a single one. This was back in the very late 90s.
